Alex Theofilos past away 10/7. For those who Race, and don't recognize the name, he & his brother George created the "Handicap System" we now refer to as "Bracket Racing" . Alex & George owned Sunset Drag Strip, outside of Sharon PA., and what was known as Youngstown/Meander & Ohio Drag City off route 18 West of Youngstown. (AKA Youngstown Executive Airport) George & Alex also formed the PDA, (Professional Dragracers Association) back in the 60s. Somewhere, George & Alex are together again, and I am sure there is some sort of promotional agenda going on with them. Most of the Big names of the 60s raced at their tracks. I was @ Sunset when Don Nicholson made the 1st sub 6 sec. pass in the 1/8th. (5.92 Sec) in May of 66. Someone told me years ago about You might not get all the pay for racing at one of their tracks, but You'd Never worry about going away Hungry, as they'd load you up on Hot Dogs, Burgers & Soft Drinks!! You might also get some excitement @ Meander, if a Plane needed to make an unscheduled landing, @ YEA, and they were know to stop the racing at times for that.
