I actually won a 1965 Turquoise Mist Skylark Convertible in a RAFFLE!! I have always been a car nut but in my old age (76) I cant wrench as much as i used to. This car is not a show car by any means, but I hope to make her a very respectable driver. I'm still trying to learn what I have. It has a four bbl carb so I am assuming it is the 300 higher compression version. It has a single exhaust so I am having duals installed. The convertible frame is bent so I am in the process to get the parts needed to replace the top. I am more of a resto-modder than a preservationist so I will be seeking a lot of advice from this forum. I am excited for this new journey.
Welcome from Canada! Most of us like to modify our cars so you will fit in! Yes you should have the one or two year only 4 barrel high output 300, cool engine. Use a magnet to confirm if the heads and intake are both alum? A carb rebuild would be my next move as well as a points elimination kit in the distributor. welcome!
Welcome from Florida! Congrats on the win. This is the best source, hands down, for learning about your Buick and what you need for it.
Welcome from Georgia! My first ‘old’ Buick was a ‘64 Skylark convertible. Yours looks great! If it were mine, I’d do any the roadworthiness repairs, the dual exhaust and switch to the chrome road wheels (with dark grey centers if you want to be correct for ‘65) and drive it like it is. Maybe put in a Turbo 350 trans. Patrick
Another Florida Welcome. Most of us are geezers or pretty darn close. I'm a fan of making it your own.
I am quite fond of the 64-65 A-body and floppy tops. Very nice surprise to win that raffle, I'm sure!
