Disclamer- I know this has been beaten like hell, just bare with me:bglasses:

a week or two ago, I had posted about my 350, Well I've had a 455 block and all of its components just sitting in the garage. I decided that I want to put it in. So I started to do some research. In the course of this, I found another 455 with 430 heads. Well, Those heads are a lot better than the 76 heads that I had. So I bought the engine.
I decided to use the 455 That I had bought. Today I pulled the heads off and the cam out. Found out the block is a 74, with what appears to be stock pistons. The block deck looked like it may have been milled, but can't verify it yet. So, hear is the numbers I did, and bare with me, My measurements maybe off.
    Bore: 4.310
    Stroke: 3.900
    Head cc: 69
Piston cc: 42 (stock 73-76 piston)
    Deck clearance: .040
    Gasket thickness: .38

put this in the compression calculator: 8.2:1

I am trying to achieve at least 9:1 to 10:1
The biggest improvement I can do is on the pistons. I know the 1970 pistons were at least 23-25 cc (do these exist?)
    Two references I use
    http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/pistons.htm
    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?132200-Stock-455-piston-questions

In the end I am wondering if there is exactly a 1970 stock piston That I can buy?
online the best I can find is 27.8 cc (if I read it right)

So fellow BBB brothers, Share me your knowledge and Feel free to constructive criticizes me. I am still learning alot of this.

    Thanks guys

Paul, Thank you very much. I was looking at TA and had seen their pistons, but I couldn't find the piston head volume. You hit the nail on the head with my next question.:TU:

Also, I like the TA pistons, But do they offer a engine rebuild kit? or any other company/distributor that may offer rebuild kits with TA parts or similar companies with the same/close to specs?

Trying to keep under $1,000 Thanks

Most engine rebuild kits from other companies use the Federal Mogul TRW 392AP piston which has more dish volume than you want.
If you can get them to swap out for the H392NCP which is a 23 cc Hypereutectic piston, however you still don't get the better TA cam bearings.

There are a lot of upgrade choices at the bottom of the listing.

Before you do anything else on this project, have the 430 heads magnafluxed for cracks.
430 head castings are prone to developing cracks in the valve spring pad areas.

Thanks, That was part of my plan. Good info about the 430 heads. I hope its not cracked:pray: Did find out that, on both sides the head gaskets were blown.
