Seems to be the discussion rage in at least the media I follow, showing 50hp on a BBC. Seems it might benefit the BBB with the crank hanging down there like it does. Also, at what 60' should a person worry about a stock pan with rear baffle not cutting it? Pretty sure some of this has been discussed before, but the search said "oil pan" was too few words. Maybe we have some updated info.
I have a kickout pan on one of mine. I do NOT run any type of windage tray or scraper. Just a mesh screen over the kickout. Baffles and trap doors in the sump. Just let the oil fly away from the crank. I have found the most power this way,and would be more noticeable in a higher-rpm engine. my other engines have similar pans, but no actual kickout, simply because I did not want to modify the crossmember in those cars. They just have a deeper front belly and straight sides.
This pan although simple with somewhat of a kick out towards the back has always served me well. With no signs of oil pressure droppage or windage.
A kick out pan is just a more expensive version of a Crank scraper and can cut into needed header room! Take the time to make one just like the prostock guys do with sheet Teflon clamped on the edge of the sheet metal that comes within .020" of rubbing on the Crank counter weights and recipercating parts. Screens only airate the oil more and oil with air in it can't support anything good even if you where to run 250 psi of oil pressure!
Did a lot with scrapers and such in the 90’s and found zero benefit no gain in HP. I also did a lot of R&D for some of Moroso’s custom pans and what did and did not work. Some of their pans on the market are a result of what I found through my work. Even the kickout won’t have much benefit unless you really spin the engine. The higher the rpm,the more you will notice the advantage.
