A friend is asking. Has an issue with his 1970 GS hinge. Wants to keep everything original.

    Thanks

Norm—there is a place listed in the older posts. Search under hood hinge rebuild.

Man, this forum is the BEST!!!! Would you believe the hinge repair shop listed above is about 20 miles away from my summer home. I'm going to bring my hood hinges to them this summer!!!!!!

For what its worth, I think Hood Hinge Repair-Willie
was less expensive and I was impressed with his helpfulness.
Just my opinion. I'm sure either place will do a fine job for you!

    Is Willie at this place?

I just called YearOne and they charge $499.93. Has anyone used YearOne and are they any good?

I inquired about getting the hinges done and this was the response from them :

We can rebuild both your hood hinges, replacing all 14 rivets in the set for 250.00, plus shipping charges. That gets them back to you in a bare metal or a primer finish, lubed with white lithium grease in between all metal-to-metal movement areas and under the rivets when pressed into place. The only exception is if they have a specialty coating such as POR-15 or powder coating, which is too tough to blast off and will be left on.

We can coat your hinges and springs in any shade of black or grey in a couple of options. Spray paint is available for 25.00 additional dollars and powder coat is 75.00 additional. Grey spray paint colors are aluminum, cast blast and zinc phosphate and black any color in paint or powder coat.

We accept checks, money orders, credit cards, cash app, Venmo, Zelle and PayPal as forms of payment. If sending payment with the hinges, please add the additional amount you paid in shipping to the check. I tell everyone to get a quote from their shipping source, prior to sealing the carton, then drop payment inside, tape them up and ship them to us.

Also include a note with what you need done, a return shipping address, a contact phone number and an email address. After sending the hinges in for the rebuild process, please forward us the tracking number, so we can be alerted to their arrival to our shop. Most all work is done and returned within 7-14 working days from received payment, but we are behind with peak season, so some rebuilds are taking 4-6 weeks.

If you have further questions, please email me back or just call us. Thank you again and I hope we can rebuild those hinges for you.

He did mine a couple of years ago. Great work, great to deal with. I had him powder coat mine in satin black and I'm happy.

Weren't the hinges originally phosphate plated?

I could be wrong, but I think that Willie completely disassembles the hinges and checks all of the holes for wear. When I spoke with him, he explained that if a hole is worn, he installs oversize rivets. He said that you can't just drill the hole bigger using the center of the worn hole, you must start from the original center.
