I spoke to Wayne today his Information does match both the build sheet and the trim tag. He will be sending out a corrected document for GSX number 373.

The GSX in the photos show non GSX parts! The first one is the rockers on the GSX in the photo is painted red, which is 'GS only' not GSX. GSX's are painted in black because the car was built from a skylark special which has black rockers. The steering wheel looks to me in the photo not to be the correct wheel because I didn't see the thumb notches. GSX's have notched steering wheels and are smaller in diameter and fatter than the GS wheels. The wheel in the photo looks fat but not notched. It does have the correct dash with the clock. The other strange thing I noticed was that the close-up of the sport mirror has the wrong gasket which surprised me. The Buick gaskets are wedged shaped, not flat like the newer Chevy type.~~~~~~~Bob

My GSX has the red rockers. At first I thought only the Stage 1's were red but I guess they grabbed what was close at hand. I have seen them both ways. Just like the Buick plate on the rear bumper mine is silver where most GSX's are black. I have owned my car since 1975 when it had 30K on it and it now has 72K, Knew the original owner and the only item that was dealer installed was the 8-track player.

I thought that could happen. I never seen a silver buick plate, unless it was very old. The white GSX in the photo has green paint in the inner door glass area, also the black stripes are to glossy when they should be semi gloss.

A lot of the descrepencies being mentioned could just possibly be contributed to an inaccurate restoration.
    Doesn't necessarily mean it's not a real X.

    Bob,
FYI, The Steering wheel is a correct and original wheel.

The Red Rocker mouldings were installed by a pevious owner who was well aware that some came that way, even though this one appears to not have based on the build sheet and Wayne Roberts report.

The GSX that was restored in the photo doesn't have the correct mirror gaskets. Who would make a mistake like that? Also the inner door glass area is green, green paint. GSX only came in white and yellow.

    GSXstage01 posts,
"The steering wheel looks to me in the photo not to be the correct wheel because I didn't see the thumb notches. GSX's have notched steering wheels and are smaller in diameter and fatter than the GS wheels. The wheel in the photo looks fat but not notched."

Again, here is a post about "thumb notches" on a 70 GSX wheel. There are no notches or finger grips on a 70 GSX wheel, so what are you talking about? If you cut a cross section anywhere along the entire outer grip the wheel will have the same cross section.

Now the 71-72 GSX wheels had "finger grips" but the 70's sure didn't.

    He also posts,
"The GSX that was restored in the photo doesn't have the correct mirror gaskets. Who would make a mistake like that?" The answer is quite a few people. It all depends on when the car was done, before I came out with the reproductions, good original gaskets were like hen's teeth.

This "X" has technically never been restored. It was repainted in the 1980s by a member of this board, Bob Lorenz Jr. It was nice enough to take second place at the Buick Nationals, for two years and was featured in Muscle car Review years later. It has since recieved some detailing to make it even nicer that it was. I would certainly not call it a perfect car. But, it still is very nice even 2 decades after it was repainted.

It seems that your comments about GSX equipment have some discrepencies.

There is no green paint on the door. Both doors appear to be original to the car and have factory white paint behind the door panels.

You might be referring to the tinted glass, which shows its green tint in the photos?

Thanks for the 1970 color info regarding the GSX's. I am familiar as I have had one or each color.

Nice to see these cars back in the day.
    Thanks for sharing the pics.
Not sure why you tied it to my earlier post though?

    Jeff,
I think he was trying to show that in days past a "real" GSX even had a six pack.

I went to the GS nationals in 1987, and have this car on a video I shot....First with the car parked with the hood up, with the six two's on it, then driving past me in the hotel parking lot... Mickey Tompson (sp?) made these 6 two setups for buick....There was a set for sale back in 87 in hemmings...price was $2000.00 complete....

That Intake set up is way too cool.

Was that GSX auto or 4 speed? I see what looks like a Texas Plate, 567 JDM and I believe Janelle McHam was living in Texas at the Time.

Were both those Apollo White "X"s together at the Nationals?

Dan Lapoint purchased the "X", in 2000 from her, after she moved to TN.

Same X, sans M/T intake setup- 4spd. Wonder where the intake went?

Ed sold it quite a while back. Don't know where it went. I will ask the next time I see him. He is definetly Mr. induction. I just blasted and painted his 2X4 setup intake. The red GS in the above pics is his 70 Stage 1 that he bought new. Started as a Q-jet, went to a 3bbl Holley, then 2X4's, then the weber setup that is shown on the X, then a custom 3X2 setup, currently a single 4 bbl until I get his 2X4 intake back to him. The webers were on the red car first. Did not have enough vacumn for the auto, so they put it on Janelle's 4 speed X. If I remember right you could watch the hood move when you opened it up.
