I have a 61 that didn't come with a shroud. I purchased a repop 62 shroud from CARS and the opening is huge. Ideally one would want and inch clearance all the way around. I'm wondering now if I should fab something up. It's 20 3/4 wide which is fine for my 18" blade, but the height is 22 1/2" anything would be an improvement over no shroud, but want to maximize cooling the best I can. I have a stock style replacement radiator that I'll be sticking with.
Probably being too judgemental based on a photo, but that looks like a floppy, imprecise, universal 'repro'. The fan is swimming in that hole. Is the stock '61 shroud plastic? It's still steel in '59. My '64 Pontiac shroud is also steel. If it were me, I'd look for another one.
There There was no shroud in 61. A small curved rad cover on the AC cars. Nothing to brag about. It's not floppy and looks to be a pretty good repo. It may be correct. That's why I'm hoping some 62 guys chime in. At this point I'm just curious. I'll probably fab something up that fits better. Either way it'll still be better then no shroud at all if I do run it.
The ‘62 LeSabre (all had 401 CID) without A/C (like mine) had no shroud, just the curved steel piece at the top behind the radiator. I helped a friend remove and reinstall the engine in his ‘62 Invicta with A/C. The shroud is made of a molded black fibrous material, perhaps fiberglass(?). I remember it because it came out in several pieces and I had to piece it back together with epoxy. It is quite large. I don’t have any pictures, but if I see my friend soon I’ll try to get some.
Here's the link. It's actually for 62,63, and 64. I'm pretty sure it's a correct repop. I'm just a little surprised. I'm just trying to optimize my cooling as best I can. I might have to go another route. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232447424917
