At this rate, the bar is starting to get a little too high.

I was going to do this for the first time at this event but if it requires much more than a cheap helmet, I'm out. I'm not likely to spend $250 for a helmet that will only be used once, especially with 2015 and a new SNELL standard approaching. I'm willing to buy an inexpensive helmet that I could also use on my motorcycle since I can't used my existing SNELL 2000 motorcycle helmet.

I just wanted to see what a 2 ton Buick brick will do.

    I'm OUT!

All those 2005 helmets will be outdated next year and no longer legal for this type of event. I'd be looking for at least a 2010 spec.

Yeah, you would think that a 2005 would be dirt cheap, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I realize this is a safety thing but in my opinion, for a full bodied car that won't even get to the top of second gear, a SNELL helmet is overkill and an unnecessary expense where any DOT helmet would suffice.

Does someone have stock in SNELL?

I am a little surprised as well. I think SCCA only requires a M rated helmet for Autocross and not an SA rated helmet. It must have something to do with the insurance they are getting.

    Is this an SCCA event?

Looking at the information posted I would say it is not an SCCA event. Looks like it being put on by a different group.

On another topics does it have to be a Buick to particiate or a muscle car? I am a little nervous running my GSX. I used to run it but when the values increased into the stratosphere I stopped beating on it. I avhe a 2000 FRC Corvette that I could bring but it has an LS1. Otherwise I would need to look for something to bring and I am running out of time.

AH! I would love to go! I have been racing AutoX for almost 10 years, and love it dearly .... However, I cannot imagine "rowing" my 66 Riviera around a course after competing in a Miata for the last 4 years.... lol ... and I cannot imagine the cost involved in getting the gas hog there from Canada either :(

As far as helmets go, our club provides loaners and hair nets, but I bought my SNELL legal helmet at an ATV dealer ... open faced and just over $50 :)

    Have fun and post pics!

Yep, everything I can find/read says that if you don't have to have a fire suit, you should be able to use an M-rated SNELL helmet. SCCA-Solo allows M-rated helmets back to 2000.

Who's in charge of this and can we get a definitive ruling without speculation? Seems the regs on this event exceed SCCA requirements.

2014 SCCA rules here for reference, page 42 on helmets: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/assets/2014 Solo Rules Book 7 w cover and links.pdf

Sorry for the delay in response guys,

Scot W at GNS Performance and I are the one's that spearheaded this quest.
After some discussion about the helmet requirements ,and what was mentioned as required
, it's agreed the helmet requirement is a bit of a over kill, so what is being suggested is and accepted will be the same helmets you'd wear when drag racing , NOTE:: there won't be a helmet police checking every helmet , but use a decent helmet to protect that head of yours, you will be tossed in around in the car more than you realize, so keep that in mind , holding on , trying to brake and throttle , and steer is a big request from your body , so protecting that extra attached weight above your shoulders should be nothing to taken lightly .

No flames suits or anything like that is needed or required, just good set of seat belts, ( if stock) or a good safety harness , and a good helmet .

A suggestion however..... remove anything that is loose from the interior ( cd cases , tapes, extra car parts, bags), and in the trunk ( tools extra car parts spare tire, jack equipment, polishing car care products ect. ect.). Saves you from a object that may come up and hit you hurting you or hindering your driving ,(like that old soda bottle rolls out from the drivers seat and gets lodged under the brake pedal) , and also putting pimple dents in your quarters, not to mention saves weight

    Hope this helps..

OK, I've already got tickets for get in and I'm not drag racing or showing. What is the cost to Auto-X? I can't make heads or tails of the confusing form.
