Has anyone blocked the grill on there 10 second Buick. If so, how much ET and MPH did it pick up? Also, pictures on how you did it would be awesome.

Also, I am thinking of adding a 4 inch air dam under my front bumper to help with the aero and hopefully pick up some MPH. Has anyone messed with doing this?

When I bought the GSX race car from Ollie Colteryahn and Dave Benisek it did not have an air dam. It did have plexiglass panels behind the grill attached to the grill with 6 screws and nylon fasteners.

A friend of mine made back to back runs with and without the grille blocked on a 70 Skylark chassis car. At the time it ran mid 9s and the car was 1 mph faster with the grille blocked.

This was a relatively low slung car with nothing else done for aero purposes.

I think I am going to try it.

Does anyone have any pictures of how the mounted the plexiglass?

I was watching something about early sting rays and after they made the hood vents non-functional the cars became unstable over 100 mph due to front end lifting because nowhere for the air to go it just tried to lift car. Bean counters left them non-functional anyway.....

On my Jag if I forget to latch hood it rises up and the cowl becomes level with top of roof and car picks up. Thinking about it now I'm thinking that relieving the trapped air under hood is also contributing. I've lost a few races running out when the hood comes up. Final at Maple Grove 10.00 comes to mind.....
Of course my hood is hinged at the front!

I have the grille on Buizila blocked off with 2 sheets of polycarbonate. Same as Gary stated, about a mph gain and only .02 in ET and I run 10 teens

    My glass hood......has cowl scoop....
.is held on with 4 Zeus on each side......without a front latch it would ballon up so much that I swore it was going to blow off........I could see completely under it and physically drive the car looking between the hood and the radiator support.

I had to fab a clip to fit the hood latch and extra pins in the rear to keep it on the car......there is alot of air moving through there at speeds over 100 for sure

I am going to try to make something to test it, I will keep you posted on results

People used to remove cowl seal and raise back of hood to let air out. Wonder how much ET it is worth?
Probably get fumes/fire into passenger compartment and not NHRA legal....

Here’s how I did my 65. I don’t have any data, but I thought it would help. It’s either lexan or plexiglass, I don’t remember. Small zip ties hold it on, had to put it on the front side since the backside is not flat or smooth. Clean and simple.
