    :)
wondering which cars would have the 800 cfm Q-jets.....
was at the yard today and saw several 70's caddys with huge motors and Q-jets.... (would these carbs be good for buick application ?)
will the 70,1,2,3,4,5,6 BBB be the only cars to look for ???

    thanks

I know for sure the 71 and 72 455 Buicks came with an 800. My 76 Electra 455 has an 800, but its one of those funky emmissions carbs. I've never seen the 73 to 75 carbs.

    emissions

    :)
    thanks for the reply.
i am wondering if a emissions 800 carb is something tobe avoided or if it can be rebuilt/builtup to be as good as any other desirable 800.
or is a emissions carb a fatal flaw ?
    thanks

I haven't rebuilt one yet, but I've taken one apart. It seems there's a couple extra parts. I don't know what they do. Maybe they're in there to look pretty. Personally, if I couldn't find an 800, I would get a couple of 750's from the early 70's and put a good one together. A friend and myself prefer the Pontiac carbs. They have notches cut out on the secondary butterflies (upper). They also have pullover enrichment tubes that pick up fuel directly from the fuel bowl and disperses it above the choke flap on the primaries. Not every one has this but you can tell by the extra material above the primary venturies and the two small holes. The to small holes are key to this. That means the tubes are already in there. I have a couple that are exactly as I described but with no holes or tubes. But it can be modified to work. Originally, they were used to enable a lean condition at idle and off idle. But enable enough fuel for higher RPMs. If you jet this right and do a little fancy work with a Dremel tool, you could have a nice performance carb. You can see a picture of what I'm talking about in Doug Roe's book on Rochester Carburetors page 50. It also gives a little explaination (more or less, what I wrote above). I don't know what junkyards are like where you're from, but around Pittsburgh, the yards with the school busses are usually goldmines (meaning: they're usually full on non-school bus parts). Good luck.
