The 200 4 is pulled now. Fluid was dark and clutch material in the pan. Tyler's been saving money to buy the parts.

Tyler is going to put clutches back in this tranny. He was going to build a 400 we had, but really wants the overdrive for that car, since he will drive it more on the highway.

He took the transmission to his school shop to pull it apart, then he'll order parts. May be a few weeks before he gets it back in. He wants to learn to do it all himself. I guess if he has a performance specialty shop someday, he will need to know how to do it all.

Update. Tyler got the 200 4R back in the GN and running strong again. Turns out that this trans had a cracked impeller piece in the pump, so it would lose pressure. It wasn't the clutches. We'll see how long this one will hold up.

And for Jim and Joe and others that understand Tyler......This "stock" GN with larger turbo, injectors, alky injection, etc, for his daily driver will launch off the trans brake at just over 4000 rpm. What a ride!!!!!!!

Any guesses what will break next? Oh, to be 19 again.

By the way, it's all his money. He works on weekends and is in college all week. He don't use daddy's money. What little I have available goes to the convertible.

    I hate those things.
They were put behind 140hp turds for a reason.
Why build a castle out of mashed potatoes when you can use stone?....
Just because it's possible, doesn't make it a good idea.:Do No:

All I can say is if he likes coming off the trans brake at 4000, he's going to get some practice rebuilding them. They won't hold up doing that unless you put close to 2 grand in it to strengthen all the weak links they have. If you wanna play, you gotta pay.

He did. I don't know all of the components, but the components are supposed to handle the power. It's just a 6 cylinder. :Do No:

Ok, I got a good chuckle from that one. :TU:
    It's funny cuz' it's true.

I'll bet no one ever had to fish the governor out of the pan, or pull the tailshaft out like a fireplace poker running that setup.:pp

Broke again. Another hard part failure.

Broke the pump again apparantly, or something to do with the pump. No pressure and no forward or reverse at all.

    out it comes.

This gets frustrating. To reiterate, this trans has the big money billet equipment designed for more than the power it puts out. This V-6 has over 100k miles on it.

And, yes, he realizes he could pull the turbo out and have a nice smooth easy driving GN, but we believe and driving these cars. That's what they are built for. So, that's why we have a big shop and a bunch of spare parts I guess!!!

Find the weak part and upgrade. Part 2 of the racing hobby.

Obviously, something is wrong because there are plenty of 200-4R's out there with plenty of horsepower. Plenty of folks are running them behind big torque big blocks as well and they live.

What has failed in each of these transmission iterations?

We are having front pump issues. Can't figure out what it is. And now going to quit trying. We'll see if 400 has any issues in it.

I know there are plenty of cars running the 200 4R. This car apparantly won't be one of them. Two different trannys, three different builders. One being world renowned for building the best GN tranny's. Yea, there is something going on here, but not going to build another to see.

Tyler is going to build the TH 400's.

Have you run different converters with each build or all the all running the same converter?

Different converters. First one was factory, then a built one. Had it freshened up after the first problem with that transmission.
