I just got my 1969 Buick Riviera 430 intake manifold back from being hot washed and I'm going to blast and port it. What new gasket do you guys recommend? Should I use the stock/existing metal one? Thanks friends!
The factory style metal gaskets work ok but I prefer the composite gaskets. I have used both the TA ones and the Fel Pro ones. You will need to cut up an old gasket/pan to make a baffle below the intake. TA has directions to trim it up. Or you can buy one of the available kits for a baffle. Without the baffle you will suck oil into the PCV Valve. Greg
That Fel-pro gasket is pn1357 https://www.drivparts.com/part-details.html?part_number=1357&brand_code=BCWV Greg
The TA composite intake gaskets say they must be used with aluminum heads. I am not changing out the stock heads at the moment. You guys think this will be an issue? Lucas
I think what they are saying is that if you have aluminum heads you should be using those gaskets and not using the metal pan gasket. They are not saying that those gaskets are only for aluminum heads. I have had their intake gaskets on my engine for years and I have stock cast heads. Greg
I just used the metal MS96005 Fel-Pro gasket kit when I changed intakes on the 400 (same as the 430). It worked out fine. Used the copper gasket spray on both sides of the gasket, and used RTV (like The Right Stuff) on the china walls, instead of the rubber end gaskets. Worked out great.
