I just replaced the control module in my HEI for the second time in two weeks? Bought the one that lasted 2 weeks at O-Reilly's made in Japan. Was it a fluke or is there something else going on maybe?

    Bob,

Did you also have trouble with Pertronix module(s)?

How many times and type of issues have you had with ignition? Maybe a clue as to ultimate cause.

No Petronix problems, you might be thinking of a post I had on here a while back inquiring about Petronix point conversions. The module before the one that lasted two weeks was in there 6 years or longer.

I would measure voltage going in and also look at the pick up coil wires. Those wires flex everytime the vacuum advance works. They get brittle with heat. Maybe they are losing connection and when you jostle them around switching modules they regain it.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Electronics that are defective are likely to fail when newish, rather than later. Could just be a "burn in failure".

It's certainly possible that over voltage or some other electrical anomaly or heat could kill it also. Probably defective is the most likely scenario.

Gotcha. Yeah, my olde brain tosses everything an a big box, and stuff gets stuck to everything like "purse candy".

Did you put the goop under it when you installed it?

Check your wires, also check and clean your grounds.
You are using the heat dissipating grease?

Bought a performance HEI from T/A problem solved, car runs like a top. I probably could have fixed the old one but at 82 my eyes aren't that good anymore and my dexterity isn't that great either. If anyone's interested in the old HEI let me know. It has a new cap, module, and rotor. It was set up by Carmen, advance starts a 900 RPMs and is all in at 2400.
