I’m repainting the pulleys, brackets and accessories that will go on my new engine. Here are the last pieces I’m not 100% sure of. What’s the correct color for the 1970: Heat stove Choke thermostat cover Coil bracket
Ray, All three are plated different finishes. The heat stove is zinc phosphate like the alternator adjustment arm and hood hinges. The choke cover should be this color: And the coil bracket is plated the same finish as the alternator pulley. The type of plating of the last two completely escapes me at the moment but maybe someone else can chime in. Either way, those are the correct colors.
Actually, the '70 choke should be silver colored - not gold colored, but, you can put it any color you like.
I think we have had this very discussion in the past. I guess some cars got gold and some got silver finish. I have not seen original gold finish on the Flint built cars I have owned, parted or worked on. Obviously, by your examples, gold finish was used, however, I don't recall seeing gold. To be fair, I haven't seen or haven't looked specifically for the color on every car I look at and most times those units are a rusty brown color. I bought a used one from a board member a few years ago and the color under the bolt head was silver. Also, I have one or two NOS units - in very old boxes that are silver (bright Cadmium) finish. Perhaps the replacements were made that way. I know ... nos is not necessarily a guide.
Thanks for the input guys. Since this isn’t a concourse car I’m happy to flip a coin on the choke housing color.
