Getting close to finish this 72 Skylark "makeover"....just noticed dash lights come on when I start up the motor? Any suggestions?
That's odd because they get thier power through the headlight switch. When you say they come on when you start the engine, does that mean when you turn the ignition to "run" or only when the engine is running?
You can turn the dash lights on with the key in the lock position, in other words, anytime, by pulling the light switch out one click. Has your car's wiring been butchered in the past?
First thing I would check is the headlight switch plug. See if the gray wire is still connected to the connector. Its almost as though someone cut the gray wire out and ran it directly to switched power in the fuse box
