Dealer code, Wayne say's not available ?

I got my report today from the GS Historical Society. The dealer code is 79-001. Or is that code for no code ? The car has been in NC since at least '93. perhaps earlier. Any help ? ray:

NC is Zone 22.

I have had several cars looked up by Wayne for which he had no information about the name of the dealer. But it was available elsewhere. 79 is an interesting prefix for the zone since Canadian zones begin with the number 80.

Maybe they were once a Buick Dealer.

Another explanation is that if you bought a car already charged to the GM overseas division you could pick it up at any local GM dealer of your choice even if it did not sell Buicks.

Yet another explanation might be that there was a large storage lot at the Mohenk NJ dealership affliated with the GM Overseas Division. So Mohenk Cheverolet was put on the paperwork because they had possession of the car. Thereafter, another dealership appears on the paperwork representing the actual dealership that delivered the car to the first owner.

SO I wonder if a serviceman ordered the car before coming home ? Or it actually went overseas at some point ?

Shows it is a NJ dealer. See this 69 Vette that came with the same code about the same time.

I think he listed the wrong state. Perhaps Mohenk is on the New Jersey side of the line.

no ...... I was always led to believe the 79 codes were export cars. Does any of the paperwork justify this? Where did it come from prior to your ownership? Any ideas??

The Mohenk address is close to the NY state line. Jason this delaership was over by the Teterboro airport. What is there now?

I was kidding. No the carpet was already gone , so no dealer tag there. The NC title was from 1993 http://www.lillingtonnc.com/default.asp. I'll see if I can talk to that owner. It does have a previous title#. Jim is NC title search friendly ?

I tried locating Oak Hill Motor Co., and was told they don't exist anymore. I was unable to find dealer Zone 02, and Dealer# 358, in the data base. That code may be the code for Oak Hill, but I don't really know how to read Buil sheets. I was able to find Zone 79, Dealer #001, in the data base, but can't find them listed currently.
My questions are: Has anyone ever heard of Mohenk Chevrolet in East Rutherford, N.J.?
Why is there two dealers listed on the build sheat, boxes #113 and #117?
If I can't locate the original dealers, what would be my next step?

I think Gary Foster's old Silver 70 Stage 1 had a 70--- dealer code. His car was ordered new by a serviceman that was living in Germany and the car was shipped straight to Germany. I do remember the export dealership for Europe was in NY.

The car came with a radio delete panel, supposedly because the service man wanted to listen to american music and was buying an aftermarket radio/tape player.

His car was Charged to dealer 79-001 and was shipped to dealer 79-011.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Ask Bruno D. if he remembers a large storage lot being there for GM cars assigned to the GM Overseas Division.
