It is supposed to be from a 455/2004R combo but I can't see how it will work. What am I doing wrong? It looks way too tall.

I used a Hughes tube and dipstick because I wanted the locking dipstick. It didn't fit well because I lowered the car on the frame. I just used a conduit bender to make it fit. I then cut some off of the top of the tube and then cut and remarked the dipstick. Other than that, it fit perfect!

Yeah - I though about cutting it off. But then, maybe someone can use it for the correct engine trans combo.

Look at the part number on the stick it self. This my lead you to what you have. That tube isn't going to work without major mods.
You do know that transmission and motor were never mated to gather? The trans tube needs to bolt the top right main mounting bolt.
It would be the same as the Buick grand national, as it has the same transmission.
I will post a pic of what it looks like on my grand national. Pic is on my cell phone.

Yep! That one is the super rare 'through the hood' dipstick!
Seriously, maybe out of a Silverado or similar rig?

Honestly doesn't look terrible to me. Seems like the same height as the air filter, which is where they normally land.

That tube is from a truck. It will not work in a car. If it even clears the firewall and heater, the hood will still smash the top of the dipstick, and maybe even the tube.

Here is the tube/dipstick you need. Saying it would clear your V8 engine intake things.
This is a 1986 Grandnational, I tried to show the tube bolted to the top bolt, dark can't see. 20241027_144440.jpg

2004rs didn't come in trucks. So if its a truck stick its not correct.

Correct - this engine and this transmission have never met before. I will check the number on the stick - good idea!
Dip stick came with another 2004r that was supposedly behind a 455 in his car.
The Grand National dipsticks are rare and expensive. Maybe a Regal or Monte would work. The 2004r also came in the same years El Camino as a GMC Caballero!

Yes there are other applications for the 200 4r in GM applications. The tube and stick need to come from a BOP bolt pattern.

Looks like I can make this work. I'll update if successful. The TurboBuick folks have been very helpful too.
