The 1653 Dupi-Color when used alone is impossible to tell the difference and it’s not expensive and readily available, and very durable. IMG_2958.jpeg 68590116674__9B4A0C45-673A-4CBF-9C31-040AF28622DD.jpeg

Before spraying the duplicolor top coat did you use a primer on the cast iron block/parts?

No, just wiped everything real good with wax & grease remover.

I used 1000-degree primer on engine blook, heads and intake manifold then sprayed 1653
I think the most important thing to do is make sure no oil is on any surface.
I degreased then used a propane touch to make sure no oil was anywhere.
I am in the process doing my motor now for my 72 GS455.

Looks really good. Currently contemplating on whether to use a primer or not. I will on the steel parts but i think on cast iron it should be fine.

I used etching primer after a good cleaning. I like the red caliper paint for the heat crossovers.

My thought on primer is that if it’s not designed for heat or engines, as engine paints are, then it may flake off. If the primer flakes the. There goes your paint with it.
I used the Bill Hersch Buick red with no primer. It’s been five years now and only about 5,000 miles but still looks great.

ics/reviews says it good but I wonder if its cuz you have to use their top coat products as well and follow the directions.

I use a light coat of red oxide Krylon or Dupli...then the cherry red krylon...the primer allows quicker more even coverage.....cold galvanizing on the exhaust runners will jeep them from flaking

Only part of a 455 that gets hot enough to break any spray paint down is the exhaust runners and intake cross over....I e never used an "engine enamel "
