I made a typo, whoops! I meant I usually fill up with 92 +lead. I've been meaning to try 100 at the Auburn station, just to see what the difference is.

There is also a "Spirit" station in North Seattle owned by Johnson's Auto service that has ethanol free. I think its only 89Octane though. I agree the fuel here is poor.

There used to be a Phillips Station on the North end of Lake Washington (Juanita Drive?) that has 103, I miss him.

Phillips as in Phillips 66? what year was that? Funny thing is the refinery in Ferndale is a PH66... And get PH66 AV oils allover this area.

Well apart from changing gas and timing, I might fiddle with the carburetor a bit. Perhaps it's jetted too lean, it is a non-factory carb.

Yes, it was a Phillips 76 Station. Probably 10 years ago... Is there somewhere in Mukilteo that sells better fuel?

The only time the factory tune up specs apply is IF the engine still has the correct distributor part number it left the factory with. That is very unlikely in a 50+ year old car. Any other distributor means the factory initial timing spec is meaningless. Just look at how many different distributors were installed in Buick engines,

I think my WOT pinging issue is due to a lean mixture. I can't say for certain since I don't have an AFR gauge, but I've noticed with the ambient temperature increasing the pinging has decreased, I think because the air isn't as dense?

For the heck of it... Disco your vacuum advance and plug.... also for the heck of it try running with a non-ported source...

I think it seems like a timing issue.

If anything I would expect it to go leaner in warmer air. Does it do at all speeds (WOT regardless of RPM)?

    Keep tinkering!

I've been running with the vacuum advance disconnected while trying to diagnose the issue, might give manifold vacuum a shot though

Springs and weights...What kind of condition are they in?

Yeah, my thinking regarding the mixture was if it was too lean for 35* ambient temp then maybe it's "just right" for the 50*+ ambient I've been experiencing, but I don't think a 20* difference in temp would be major enough to cause a change in AFR?

I'll make another WOT run both uphill and on level ground to confirm, if I'm careful I might try recording a video for everyone to see/hear. I'll also put a timing light on it to confirm my initial/total timing.

    I haven't given up yet!

New springs and weights from a Moroso tuning kit. Advance bushing is new as well, from the same kit. I would have to double check the stiffness but I recall that I'm using both of the medium springs

Im a firm believer in ACdelco plugs also in a GM ..... But when I went to NAPA to get plugs for my 92 caprice they handed me MIC ACdelcos

Im running NGKs in the buick and the other other buick and both my SBCs.

Well changing plugs isn't difficult, what heat range NGK is recommended for a stock engine?
