safe? i was thinking about putting a fiberglass bolt-on hood (assumably fine), and i might go for a bumper, too...would a fiberglass bumper just crumple to crap if i got in a wreck? and the other question, which goes with this but is kinda O/T...are 70-72 front ends interchangable? i personally like the 70 style better, and since they reproduce the front bumpers pretty cheap, i was thinking about buying a '70 bumper and grill to replace my current setup.
safe I think the fiberglass front bumper is pretty safe for a weekend crusier but maybe not for a daily driver. I think the bumper would break but would absorb some impact only up to about 10 MPH or so. The front ends are interchangeable but you will also need to change the front hood lip as the '72s and '70s are different hights.
I have both front and rear glass bumpers since late 80's, Actually they are the 2nd or 3rd original sets that were first made. Got them from Dave Knutsen (great guy) Anyway, the bumpers will not hold up to squat! THey only weigh about 6 pounds and will definately break or crack on any type of small hit. I used them when my GS was still streetable and used on occassional weekend crusies only. As for the hood, it doesn't matter as long as you have it pinned correctly so it doesn't fly up on the corners. Rick Martinez
