    Hi Guys,

I'm in the planning stages of a 72 Sun Coupe restoration and would appreciate some input. Originally a 350 car, I'm planning to resto-mod the drivetrain and suspension and finish it out in GSX trim. After searching some past threads on parts availability and pricing via the aftermarket, I could use some input from those of you that have already covered this same ground.

Most of the key GS/GSX parts I need are available from multiple vendors, with YearOne and OPGI being the primary sources I've found. Are there better sources out there for any of these items in terms of price/quality? Any general feedback on which vendor you've had the best experience with? I've done business with YearOne back in my Mopar days, but it's been awhile.

    • While I'd love to use an OEM GS Hood, availability and pricing is prohibitive. Glasstek appears to be the only show in town for an aftermarket hood, and pricing ($774) is the same across all sources. Any benefit to ordering directly from Glasstek vs. YearOne or OPGI? Glasstek says they're 10-12 weeks out since everything is made to order.
    • Front spoiler: Glasstek ($229) and OPGI ($179) both stock versions, while YearOne actually has three different versions that range in price from $189-$270, though the differences aren't clear from the product listings, other than some include hardware, others don't. YearOne also sells three different versions of the baffle, which I assume I'll need.
    • Rear Spoiler: YearOne ($422) and OPGI ($294) both offer products, I assume they're from different manufacturers.
    • For Hood Scoop grilles YearOne sells them for $317. Are there better quality/price options available? For hood insert bezels, YearOne ($219) and OPGI ($203) have options, not sure if it's the same manufacture.
    • Stripe kit: YearOne offers a 3M adhesive vinyl product for $346, while OPGI sells a Phoenix Graphics version for $255.
    • The last significant item is the hood tac. YearOne sells one for $419 and OPGI has one for $266. I imagine they're selling versions from different manufactures.
I'd appreciate hearing your input based on experiences you've had with these vendor and/or these specific parts. If price was my only criteria, OPGI comes out on top, but I know that's only part of the puzzle, product quality and service are most important. I'm not delivering the car to my painter until October, but with all the supply-chain issues I want to source these items now to avoid delays.

    Thanks.

    Dan

You will be very disappointed with the stripe kits. Several on this board have tried them and say they are a waste of money.

If you buy a reproduction tach I would buy from Randy Watson. He sells the Buick tach on eBay for $249 ( https://www.ebay.com/usr/randy4 ) but he might sell it even cheaper if you buy direct from him. His contact info is shown on his website www.rctach.com/index.html

Who sells the stripe kit for paint like the original?

No one sells a correct kit for the GSX stripes. That's one of the reasons we see so many cars with the GSX stripes painted incorrectly.

Give accurate pictures of the stripes to your painter. If he's any good he can mask it better than the kits.

Post on this board for parts wanted. It might take longer but folks may have stuff you are looking for and used OEM is, in most cases, better than the repro's.

What drive line are you going to use?

You might try posting a parts wanted ad for a orig. hood that already had a hole for a tach cut in it. There has to be some out there that people have replaced while doing correct restos.

Sounds like a neat build. What drivetrain?
