Thanks Gary...I haven't done much digging on that site except for one car I was bidding on a month or 2 ago.
Now at Barrett Jackson AZ, no reserve. https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1970-BUICK-GSX-STAGE-1-244152
165 k . Turn key multiple award winner. I think 2 guys with deep pockets will want this one and will fight to own it.
Is it the numbers matching block? I see where they mention the matching VIN on the trans but don’t mention the block.
Or, a really good set of stamps, a straight edge, and a steady hand. This original matching numbers block to the 72 Stage1 4 speed car had the last digit an 8 stamped over a 7. Like they stamped the engine for the car ahead of it, and stamped this block then realized they forgot to change the last number in the sequence, then stamped an 8 over the 7. Had a guy look at the car and was concerned that someone was going to question if it was the original engine. I said look man, think about it. You think someone went out and found a whole other engine out of the car built in the line before this one, bought the engine, then stamped one digit to make it correct for this car???? C'mon, really???
Here is what I think about Buicks Most guys have no clue on what's right or correct at these auctions. It's all about the car and how it looks... You can make up a bunch of stuff up It's a small Buick world really. I hear what these guys say while looking at cars at auctions.
True to an extent - Dave Johnson's old GSX and Jeff Horsman's old Stage 1 4-sp being notable exceptions b/c of the quality of the restorations. How much more would they have brought being #'s matching? Idk. This seems like a very nicely restored car albeit a pretty run of the mill equipped GSX. Will be interesting to see what it brings. I'd be proud to own it.
I’m not sure what you are referencing in the pictures you posted, but I can tell you the frame is the “born with” frame. Yes, I restored the car. When I owned it/sold it, it had the correct BW stamping/part number, and the VIN for the car. There were two frames for the GS455’s in 1970. The early frames were stamped “CC” and the later cars got a “BW”.
