Snow is melting and not a real big deal, should be almost gone in another day or two. Availability of items is becoming 3rd world like and is a big deal.

We were lucky and not in the main snow band this time, we got about 57", a mile away they got 42", 5 miles away they got 81". Lake effect snow will do that. 1/2 has melted and another 1/2 of that should be gone by Sunday with our current weather pattern. Mid 40 degrees the last few days.

In Syracuse, we go zippo. An hour north of us in Watertown, they were in the 70”+ range. We travel through Watertown to get to our cottage in the 1000 Islands, but way no how could we go last weekend as they closed the roads. On 81 through Watertown yesterday, it was plain as day to see the lake effect band was only about 15 miles wide for the real heavy stuff, and it was impressive. 1/2 hour north of Watertown is the St Lawrence River and our cottage. Zippo there too.

How did we go from oil to snow?

Bob I think this is the answer to your last line:D
As for the topic. I still can get 10/40 with no issues

I would use this in the GSX. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bpo-71446

You can order as much as you want and have it shipped to your door. They also have a 15W/40 if you prefer for summer temps.

Well, I took a ride to SK speed and picked up 5 quarts of Driven hot rod oil in 10w-40. Used an STP filter that's actually the same color as the old PF24s

So are there any issues with running synthetic or synthetic blend in my 70 driver with 125k miles? Engine has not been apart. I have been running Penzoil in it for the last 10 years.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

    Don.

I use Driven HR2 non synth, in both my nail and BBB.

If you want to use synthetic, it would be no issue for your engine (keeping the ZDDP in mind) and I would recommend Driven HR4 synth or an equivalent.
It's a 10W-30 and has ZDDP. I think a formulated would be better than adding ZDDP to an existing synthetic, since the formulators have already "done the math".

Unfortunately the days of just running down to the corner store are numbered. Nobody want to keep inventory lying around. I order Rotella for my trucks from Walmart and have it delivered sometimes 30 gallons at a time. I ordered VR1 from Amazon and accidentally subscribed to have 12 quarts sent every 6 months. Definitely overkill but I have good stock and don't need to think about it.

Maybe Castrol will come out with 10w40 or 10w30

I stopped at Advance Auto today and the closest store with VR1 10W30 was 3 towns over. They ordered me a case that will be here in the morning.

He said there's over 100 cases at the warehouse but they hardly replenish the stock of certain "specialty" oils unless someone asks.

The last few cases I've got from Amazon were about $10 - $15 cheaper.

I'm perfectly fine running a synthetic 5W30; prefer it, frankly.

I used Castrol GTX 10W40 for years. Added ZDDP.
