Have an oddball combo (455 in a '59), and my PS box is inside the frame rail, next to the block.

I am in the process of re-flowing the header on that side because it's physically impossible to remotely get it in there. If it were a mirror image of the passenger side, it'd be fine.

My question is: is there a concern in running the header pipes too close to the steering box (car has solid motor mounts), where the heat would be a problem? Would thermal wrapping the tubes eliminate that problem if so?

Right now, a couple spots are like a 1/4-in away from the steering box casting, and somewhat curving around it.

T/A Stage II SE heads, T/A 2014CSH headers.

I can tell you that where the Jet Hot coating had come off my headers, the temp in those areas is hotter than on the parts that still have the coating, they are over 25 yrs old now. You could do this to them to help.
My brother wrapped his headers on his Mustang that has a Procharger, the Pipes were very close to his clutch cable and it was getting to it, the wrap seems to have worked I noticed it is a lot cooler under the hood.

No concern there,...no chance it has any adverse affects on the box imo
