When I took my car apart couple years ago I didn’t mark the rod position of the headliner there is 3 holes , can someone tell me witch holes to use and witch Order the rods go from front to back ,,Thanks
Oh Man, that will take you hours to figure out. Don't know how the factory did it. I ended up taking a look at the same year and model car to get it.
I found this picture I took back in 2001, looks like the only picture I took of the inside roof of my 70GS...I still haven't installed a new headliner yet Hopefully next year. I believe I at least labeled the rods in order, but the are in a box in the back of my garage. Might be able to dig it out over the weekend. Maybe seeing these locations might solve which bow goes where since they are different lengths and have a different crown. Let me know how it works out. Nick
Walter, sometimes, the bows have paint marks on them. The order of the bows is really important. The position in the 3 holes, not so much. I've taken cars apart that have the bow in one particular hole on one side, and a different hole on the other side. There's no right or wrong hole (to my knowledge), and the holes were used to tighten or loosen the headliner during assembly, to get a better fit. I'll look for pics later.
When I removed the headliner in my '72 GS in 2008, I noted that the headliner rods were indeed color-code marked. I did make a note on colour vs location.
I have a headliner that I took out of a car and left the rods in it because I knew they were different lengths/curves. If you, as in the OP painted all yours then it's going to be hard to ID what you have. Either way it would probably involve a phone call or two to figure everything out. Duane
I gutta dig thru sum pics on my old laptop. Pretty sure I have pics of rods in tbier correct holes and I numbered the bows front to back..will post back when I have found them and have the time. Jim
Thanks , I did play with them some ,as far as position of the rods , between the lengths and the curve or arch of the rods,at the ends , the way they follow the roof line , I think I have them figured out , but will still like to see pics if you have them ,thanks
Good morning to all. Any more info on rod positions for 70 gs two dr hardtop? I bought my car with header bows out and nothing marked. I'm thinking that the position is the same for 70-72 skylarks. The posted picture shows the two front rods in forward middle position. any help with the back two would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron
Good news bad news. The bad - 50yr old headliner ripped apart on the highway today The good - here’s some photos of the rod positions from my 70 Skylark. They are the same on both sides. Hope this can help. Let me know if anyone needs more.
The rod hole location is not so important...but as stated above, you need to know where each rod went front to back.
I have the same issue. I always figured it was something that was custom fit @ the factory based on manufacturing tolerances (these shells weren't exactly Swiss watches). I hope you're correct. That would make this much easier.
