The ac and heater only blows toward the drivers side and not the passenger side, from the floor vent. I thought this may have been done by the previous owner but I have looked around and can't find any problems. Starting to think if it is an internal problem with my climate control. Wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem. Thanks Shawn

This is for a 1969 Skylark. Since I can't see anything changed or broken, I thought it may have something to do with the vaccuum controls and an internal flap not fully opening or something. Any help is appreciated. Shawn

I'd shine a flashlight into the vent and look for an obstruction.

Thanks, I'll try it out, I didn't even think of that because I thought it seems unlikely that something went up the vent but at this point I'll try anything. The passenger complains that its too cold, when my feet are burning.

I will post the solution when I find it so if you see no solution please leave a reply even if this post gets really old. Thanks again Shawn

After looking at my 70 last night I have changed my opinion about this. My book shows 69-72 being the same. If that's true, your heat vent is offset to the left and will naturally flow more air to the driver. You could try to redirect the air over to your passenger with a baffle of some sort or maybe block some of the airflow to the driver side. Have you checked for leaks that allow outside air into the cabin on the passenger side? Maybe the door gasket?

The door gasket is good and I didn't feel any air leaks on the passenger side. I know something is wrong because all the air from the floor vent blows towards the drivers and none blows toward the pasengers side. The passenger side dash vent works and the defrost works too. I never thought about putting a baffle to redirect the air. I will definately do that if I can't find any problems. Thanks for your good ideas. I still think its an internal problem with a flap not opening all the way or something but it will be until next week till I get some time to really look under the dash. Thanks Shawn

The 1st diaphragm towards the driver drops a redirect door vent that directs the air up to the defroster and blocks the floor vent. The second diphragm is located behind and controls the mixing door staying shut. There is your problem. The manual controls switch the doors but the vacuum hold the mixing door vent is not working. Cold to one side burn your feet off the other. I just had mine off today. My terminology may be off but its that diaphragm thats your gremilin. To remove that heater box.

    Remove the hood.
    Remove the pass fender
    remove the inner fender
get to that last b&^$% bolt

    or cut your inner fender

    7/16ths and 4 nuts.

Thanks Troy, it sounds like you know what the problem is.

"...but the vaccum hold the mixing door vent is not working" What does this mean?

Is the second diaphram you speak of, the one that controls the temperature? (by mixing hot air from the heater core and fresh air from the outside) This seems to work fine on my car because I can still control the temperature of the heater. It just blows towards the drivers side and nothing blows towards the passenger side.

    I really appreciate you help.

    Thanks, Shawn
