first post!!! i just purchased a 1968 wildcat and am in the process of cleaning it(has been sitting for 2/3 yrs) the drivers side hood hinge wint t/a on me and ripped out of the pivot point, i cant find any in or around washington state that will work. any help would be appreciated. Alex p.s. as ugly as this thing is its kinda cool, definately grows on ya. also can anyone point me to a vin decoder thing?
Thanks Yuk, what are the 5000/6000/8000/9000 cars? i am un familiar with that designation. also any idea's where i might find a hinge?
Don't you be callin, a '68 Wildcat ugly!!!! :blast: :af: To answer your question 5000 series is Le Sabre, 6000 is Wildcat, 8000 is Electra 225, 9000 is Riviera. Check EBay- big car hinges pop up from time to time. Or try parts suppliers in Hemmings. Welcome aboard :TU:
So are 69 different ? I still have lots of 69 -70 full size hinges,,,somewhere..in this mess.... o No:
now thats funny ....or is it just me. BTW ...i looked in my olds master parts book and none of them take the same hinge as the 68 buick
lol, it sure is growing on me, the car has been sitting for a number of years and is in a "mossy" state of repairs i got it up and running on sunday, and got some decent tires on it tuesday night and took it out for a drive, it made it to the gas station but on the way home it puked out and i had to go get my little jeep to tow it home at first look its uglier than sin but as it looked sitting on the road it looks pretty menacing. thanks for the info on the series of cars now i know where to start looking. p.s. you think factory service manuals for a 65 buick special (both chassi and body) will work for some of the stuff on the 68 wildcat?
Cool car. You won't get too much out of the '65 manuals for it though. I would offer a 65 hood hinge but it sounds like you need a '68 only. :TU:
yah sounds that way, should i try selling the manuals? they are in really good shape. i parted out a jeep cherokee 1979 and the hood hinge is damn near the same thing but in the wildcat there is two mounting holes on the front of the hinge (towards the core support). oh well i will keep looking, there used to be a place called buick specialties here in the greater seattle washington area but i cant seem to find there number.
Bodystyle makes no difference. The cars are the same from the firewall forward. The only thing that makes a difference is the year of the vehicle. You'll need the hinge off of another '68- other years won't work. :Smarty:
ok so thats all out of the way does anyone have a hood hinge they are actually willing to sell me and if so how much?
keep looking on ebay or here . when i need a part i email the seller who is selling parts from a car i need the parts from . i hope this helps justin
