Help decoding Body Tag for paint color?

    Hey all,

I've decided to refinish my factory wheels for my new tires that have yet to be mounted. I've looked at the body tag and I believe the factory color is Lime Green Poly? It also looks like it was originally a 2 tone car, hence the "50" paint code after the 59 for the Lime Green. Have I decoded the tag correctly or am I mistaken?

I'm also curious about how the factory finished the wheels. Were they always painted the body color?

Way cool-looks like the roof was painted white. If the car had poverty caps the wheels were body color in most instances; white (and maybe other light colors) would have black rims to not show dirt and dust.

Interesting, the car came with the poverty caps installed when I bought the car but I don't know if they are original equipment. Where can I find more information about the car's options, I believe there's a build sheet usually?

Unless someone ‘restored’ your car and liked the poverty cap look, yours are probably original. It’s not common to add them and paint the wheels unless it’s a stripper musclecar they want. There are several codes on your trim tag but I can’t read them. Some plants put info on them while others didn’t. (And some were better than others for build sheets). If you can find a way to read and list them they may shed light on the car.

Apart from the car having a mediocre respray the car is original and unrestored. I'll have to get a better picture of the body tag for you to look at and get some more info.

Nice color combo! Pics? The assy manual will show you what color the wheels should be w/Lime green. If they were/are Lime green and if the car is as orig. as you indicated, as Patrick said, that's probably correct.

Thanks! I found a picture of a 68 that gives me an idea if what my car would look like, I'm liking it more than I thought. I do have a 69 Skylark assembly manual, I'll give that a look.

BDY is Body, TR is trim, and PNT is paint?

Here's a picture of the car as she sits, it was repainted before I got the car so the white top is unfortunately no more. :(

Wow, tbh I don't usually get excited over 4-dr.'s but I really like that! Build a bad a** 350 for it!

PNT 59 50 is Lime Green w/a white painted top, not vinyl - Painted tops are awesome! Besides no rust, they look great.

I hope you can bring it to Nationals next year!

Is the Nationals a Buick event? Sounds like something right up my alley, hopefully I'll have some time available next year to make it out, work and school suck up a lot of free time

Yes, it's the biggest event for performance oriented Buicks (Skylark, GS, GN, Wildcat, etc.). It just happened last week so you have a year to prepare although the dates for next year haven't been announced yet. Should be around the same time and hopefully in the same place (Bowling Green, KY). In what part of the Country are you located?

I'm up in Washington state, is there a website I can get more info from? Sounds like a fun trip for my Dad and I.

That'd be a haul, but yes, a fun trip!

Website hasn't been updated for next year yet:

B80 and B90 appear to be optional trim (roof drip and window frame). O2C is your build week-third week of February. The 140 is your interior color and style (green cloth). The top line is car series, plant, (BF is Fremont, Ca.) and body number as it went through assembly. I don’t know about the six digit numbers (030...) on the bottom line.

That's some of that weird s*** they do in CA, lol.

I have 2 Freemont cars & one has an orig. coolant decal that Buick didn't use & plastic instead of metal cowl screen. Same ppl make Teslas now:).

That would be another fun trip I think, take the car back to the plant where she was assembled.

Thanks for the info! I can say with certainty to others that it's a gen-u-ine west coast car!
