We’ve had good luck with State Farm too, but we are in MN. Homeowners insurance is about $1300 a year and our Umbrella Policy is about the same. Claims are paid promptly.
Agreed, and they are very good at it. The biggest building in most cities will be owned by an insurance company. If they would refund half of the money that they have made from me over my adult lifetime, I would have the ultimate man cave/garage built. And it would have central air conditioning. And a wet bar.
I live in Central FL, insurance is not as bad as those of you on the Coasts, however it still went up 36% with no claim history. I have several other rental properties that have had similar increases including a Condo on a barrier island 40 steps from the Ocean. That is just a dwelling policy and that doubled, I keep a very sizable liability umbrella policy in place, I am considering self insurance at some point.
I bet any company would write a policy that only covered personal injury/liability. I would hate to consider not having coverage on my home and belongings but also understand 12k a year is crazy.
There are 2 trees in my yard that survived Irma, but are tall enough to reach the house if they fell. If I cannot get decent insurance, they are coming down. I hate the thought of it, but without good insurance it's a risk that I cannot take.
