Do I have to disassemble the whole dash board to remove it.

What exactly are you calling an "overlay"? There is the dash pad and the instrument cluster. Which one do you want to remove?

Well it was stated as a dash pad over lay, on ebay. Right, same thing its the dash pad.

You'll need to pull the glove box liner. 7 or 8 trim screws holding it on. You'll have to pull the sides of it in to get it through the glove box opening. The pad has three studs that have nuts on them. They are above the glove box. Unscrew all three! Don't forget any. Two are just above the glove box opening, one is on top of the dash pad.

Next pull the two trim screws above the plastic instrument cluster that screw into the dash pad.

There are three heavy clips. One on each end of the dash pad and one just to the right of the cluster. You have to yank the dash pad to you to release them. This is where your hands start to shake because your afraid of busting the pad! Give it a firm pull to pop it. I start at the right and work my way over to the left. The link has the steps to not only pull the pad but remove the cluster as well.

I removed the old pad in my 70 chevelle a couple years ago. It really was pretty easy, just real time consuming making sure to remove every single fastener. Going back together with a new pad is not so easy, because the new pad has never been in the car and doesn't fit as good. No doubt the fit gets better as it sits in the heat and settles in.

Is this the same for a 72? I found screws in glove box but not on top.

Yes, same 70-72. Once you have the glove box liner out, feel along the top edge. There are 3 studs with nuts on them. Read through this,

There are 2 screws that go up into the dash pad on the driver's side, above the speedometer.

Take your time or you will break things.

Thank you so much! That 3rd one was tricky find. Will share dash update when it’s all done.
