How much is a rebuilt 1972 Buick GS 350 motor worth?

    Hello,
Just wondering and asking what your opinions are on a fully rebuilt 1972 Buick GS 350 motor built with every part new. You know how expensive these things can be and I paid a pretty penny at a shop to have this done. Motor was built to stock specs. Motor has approx. 842 miles on it now.
    Thanks,
    S

It’s tough to say. Is it rebuilt stock or modified? I would guess you could get $1200-$1500 if it can be seen running. Maybe more if it’s 10:1 compression.

Motor was built to stock specs for a 1972. They added a RV cam. Has HEI, TA Performance intake, etc.

Stock meaning original pistons were used? Or, new pistons? If new, original compression or 1970 compression? Makes a difference. Headers or stock iron exhaust manifolds.

If original 8.5/1 motor I'd say $2000-$2500. If high compression motor with headers I'd say $3000-$4000. IMO. Buyer should be able to hear it running.

I just sold my '71 455 all iron motor (carb to pan) with unknown internals but running very well for $3000 here in Florida. Buyer actually drove the car with motor in it.

Thanks for the response. Brand new pistons, Rods etc. Compression was 8.5/1. Has Poston 350 headers. Motor is still in the car at the moment and I just took some video of it running.

I'd say someone restoring a non-number's matching GS350 that needs a motor would be willing to pay $3,000 plus for it. Try to take a video of actually driving the car and running it through the gears with additional video of the engine bay and exhaust with the motor running. The more confidence you can instill in potential buyers, the better. Good luck with the sale.

Not a very popular engine. Rebuilt or not. I think you will have issues asking 1000 for it. And it’s not really a performance build. Unfortunately everyone thinks reliability comes from an LS swap. Expect a lot of lower offers.

Not sure what part of the country you're in but, down here in Florida there are lots of Skylark and GS350 owners that would pay double that and more for a known good 350-4 motor with a mild performance build.

I’m in Illinois. This motor would be overlooked for an LS. It’s what people are buying here.

Can't argue with the current LS craze. It makes sense from a cost and power perspective. But, for the Buick purist, it would have to be a Buick motor. :)

I just picked this one up on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago with a bunch of manual trans parts and a full dual exhaust with magnaflows. Paid a whopping $850 for all of it.

I would say 2500$ go buy a LS for a grand and it will cost you another 1500$ to get it in and set up and running. Then if you are offered 1500$ for your motor you won't feel as bad for selling it so cheap.

    What's your plans for that?

I bought it as a replacement for my son's skylark. We plan to run the exhaust on the car and will be going with a 200r4 trans so I sold the extra manual trans pieces.

Hello Ray! Just curious, did the guy who purchased your engine say what it was going into? And on another note, I was over at KDK last weekend ;)

It’s worth less than what yah have in it unfortunately :(
It’s going to have to sell to a Buick guy, not “I need an engine” guy, the “I need a V8 engine” guy will more than likely go for an LS, due too it’s popularity

Actually Kevin King, the owner of KDK bought it. He says he will be putting it into a 73 or 74 Gran Sport for one of his customers.
If you were at KDK you should have seen my green GS. We did my swap last week and my car was there over the weekend.
