In case anyone needs this, here is a picture of how the wires go if you use the gauges. Idiot lights have same connector but wires are in different position IMG_5085.jpg

I have all the information to switch the wires, I just can't figure out how to get the wires out of the connector with a nail or screwdriver And I don't want to screw this up, can someone explain it to me a little more. What am I trying to push on to take the wire out?

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

Look into the front of the connector while shining a light from the wire side.
There is a lock tab (part of the brass terminal is "punched out" and "hangs" on a "ledge" in the plastic connector for each wire/terminal). Push the wire in to the connector as far as it will travel to get it the tab off the ledge, then press that lock tab with a thin screwdriver blade (jeweler's screwdrivers work well) towards the terminal while gently pulling the wire back and it should slide out. Do not "dig" at it as you do not want to "ruin" the ledge or the terminal won't lock back in later.

There's a set of tools used to 'pick' them out of their pockets.
I forget what they are called, someone will chime in.
Thanks for that picture, I have 2 Skylarks to convert!
    And the link Larry...

Max Damage I'm working on it!

The connectors and probably plastic body are delicate, sop go easy on this! once you see the little tab, you can figure out how to compress/release it.

What size is that rally gauge unit? I wouldn't mind having one like that in my '68 (I know that's wrong)...

well I am going to wait until I get some younger eyeballs at the shop cause I cant do it, broke the smallest screw driver I had and no luck. Tried a nail and nothing. I would buy the adapter at this point but I don't see it available anymore at Stage Won

hold plastic body at wire end. Using screwdriver narrow enough to fit vertically beside spade, insert in other end of body on side with "point," gently wiggle screwdriver alongside spade while (also gently) pulling on wire. When screwdriver is in far enough to depress "point" beyond catch inside body, wire with spade attached will slide out. When reinstalling, check "point" to make sure it looks like pic, in case you put too much pressure on screwdriver and bent it. If bent, straighten with pliers before reinserting, otherwise spade won't stay in body...

Luckey I had a junker with ralley guages. If I remember correct I only has to move a few wired by moving terminals in the plug.
