I had the sad task of parting with my long time companion today. Her name was Kitty and she was a mixed breed that I rescued from the streets of Camden, NJ. She was just a puppy when she chose me, she came running down the sidewalk and jumped into my arms. I asked the neighbors whose dog she was and they all pleaded with me to please just take her home - she was being mistreated and was going to be used as a bait dog for the pit-bulls. The justification for the bait dog destiny was that she had similar markings to a Rottweiler. I asked who she belonged to and again was begged to take her home - so I did. I checked the neighborhood several times after we adopted each other for any indication that she was missed but her former owners apparently had no feelings for her. Kitty was about 15 years old when she passed today. She was the kind of dog that would walk off leash and always stay close by, she never gave me trouble or messed up the house (okay - once she did) and she was always a great source of love and comfort. She will be missed dearly, the house already feels strange without her.

Rest in Peace my Sweet Girl...

I am sorry to read about the loss of your friend.

But, she picked someone she knew would care for her, and she picked well.

May your memories of her always be a blessing.

Hard to type this. Can't see very well.....You have my deepest condolences my friend. I can honestly say, as many other animal lovers on here can, that I know how you feel. You were selected for her. As for those who mistreated her, as a pup, she'll never encounter them again. Because we all know That all Dogs go to Heaven. You're a good man, Lee.

Sorry for your loss. We took our dog to be boarded Monday morning and as soon as we got back to the house I was missing him cause he always meets us at the door. Luckily we get him back the day we return. I'm really going to miss him when he's gone for good.

Man, I hate these threads and appreciate them all at the same time. I love the amount of genuine dog lovers we have on this board.

It's hard because their time here with us feels way too short. But you must be reminded you gave her a wonderful life and that's all any dog could ever want. Take the time to heal, never forget your time together, and when you're ready bless another little four legged friend with the same gift. Sorry you lost your pal Lee, good on you for all you did for her.

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

Looks like you gave her a great life with lots of love and attention. That is all a dog wants. They don't want smart phones or fast cars, just you (and maybe a bite of whatever you are eating).

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear this Lee... I know where your coming from, we lost 2 of our girls here, two weeks apart last month.

You don't realize how much you will miss them, on a daily basis, till it happens.

I recommend a new rescue in her honor.

    my condolences

My heart is heavy reading this news. Kitty was one of the sweetest, nicest, most beautiful dogs I have ever known. She made me feel good every time I looked at her. She was an angel. Lee I am so sorry for your loss. Our prayers go out to you Bud.

Thank you all again. It has been tough these last few days. I do still have two other dogs and am considering either fostering or adopting another in the not too distant future. They need us as much as we need them. Today is a new day and the beginning of a new year, it brings with it many possibilities. Thank you all again, I appreciate your support.

    Funny thing, dogs.

Each one, digs its own fur line hole in our hearts.

Never replacing the last one, and each time, our hearts enlarge to accommodate the new hole that is filled with the love of another dog.

If all dogs go to heaven, then all dogs bring us a little of that heaven with them.

And we can all use a little of that.

Some day soon, I hope you will share the new dog in your life with the good people here.
