I believe there was a thread on this but i can't locate. Want to buy paint to touch up interior parts like dash and A pillars, etc. Does anyone make the exact match based on our interior trim codes? i remember someone recommending SEM. I called them and they said they only go back to 1976. My interior is burnished saddle. Best Sem could tell me is that they have a 1976 GM Dark Saddle known as Formula 1618. Is everyone buying paint that is just matched to a sample or is anyone getting one represented and sold to be an exact match to OE?

That is an excellent question! Im going though this very thing with my car. There are a few different shades of "dark saddle". My 70 GS beater has a saddle interior, which is a lighter tan/ brown, but the dash is "dark saddle". The closest match I got to the dash color when I repainted the column was a color called "dark cognac" which was brand code 26284/ OEM code WA9099. As you can see its almost a dead on match. This is regular acrylic lacquer so not for use on vinyl or plastic. Sem doesn't make a color that is on their chip chart that is close. I have a custom mix for a Sem vinyl dye that I think is on the money, but I haven't done a spray out of it yet. Its supposedly a match for PUI code 42 though which is "dark saddle". As I said, Im literally right in the middle of this. Black is sooo much easier! lol

Might help to know what interior code is on the trim tag of your car

Try sem "blue bird brown" for a spraybomb iirc it was pretty close, I just mix up base coat when I need to do interior stuff, it works perfect and from my experience holds up amazing, used it on many kick panels, arm rest bases etc high wear areas , clean with alcohol or thinner or both, then use Bulldog adhesion promoter. If you have a good local body shop take a piece of trim by there and have them mix up a pint and tint it to match

Ethan, is bluebird brown more of a match to dark saddle or burnished saddle?

I used it on my sail panels headliner and visors in my Orange Car, to be honest I don't know if I've seen dark saddle in person mine is Burnished Saddle

They had another one that was real similar , I think I have a can at the shop , I know have a couple of the blue bird

I am going through the same thing right now, (just sprayed a second coat 2 hours ago) for the 67 Red convertible I bought less than three weeks ago. I had eight different reds in spray cans I had collected over time from local auto parts stores and could not get close to original paint on my bucket seat backs and lower trim pieces. I went to an auto parts (O'Reilly's) who had a paint department and the fellow showed me a SEM paint chip chart and there was a red that looked like it would work. Got the paint yesterday and tried it and it is very close to original red I need so I am using it. Was going to go to local English paint store http://www.englishcolor.com/index.html and have them do a computer analysis of the color and make some for me but the SEM paint was close enough.

    Hope that helps

I have most of the interior colors done as a custom mix, with DuPont products. The 70 burnished saddle is darker than 72 dark saddle. I may have something for that, but it has also sat for some years,so not sure it will even be good.

Burnished saddle, so Ethan's suggestion of Sem blue bird brown will match the dark vinyl and plastic parts.

Whats odd is that the steering wheel doesn't match the column or lower dash. The pic is a little fuzzy but the dash pad and lower dash doesn't seem to match. Ethan, could you post a pic of your burnished saddle dash?

I can tomorrow, but my dash, column and pad were painted with some stuff I mixed up off the mixing machine, so they are all the same color.

Yours almost looks like 71/72 saddle color on the dash from the pic

In looking at the color chart, a burnished saddle interior should have the lower dash painted "dark brown" not "dark saddle". According to the color chart, its Ditzler #23320. Ditzler is now PPG. Hopefully the OP's paint store can convert it over

When you get into these colors, there are two or sometimes three different shades of the same color in the interior, between the metal parts and vinyl parts. The old chip books I look through have these different chips.

Not sure why you guys don’t want to get exact Match from Tower in spray bombs or in pints from Auto color library. They have the PPG. Anything else will never match. Those two companies use factory codes. Remeber upper dash is flat.

Jason is correct on the dark brown. Just check trim tag codes

I have two major PPG suppliers here, and they can’t come even remotely close to matching any interior colors for me. I have another place that has DuPont, and they are able to work with me and match colors. I usually do a small mix for trial, but once I have it nailed,we’re good.
