If I go to OPGI's site, there are a couple different units. If I go to the parts place, there are even more different units. So who sells a correct radiator fan clutch, how are they supposed to be finished, how the heck do I even tell?
Well Steve, that's the problem with the clutches. They mostly look the same a 6 cylinder clutch looks the same as a GS 455 HD clutch. I just sold an HD Olds clutch on ebay. I have an NOS HD Buick clutch one of the last numbers made. I'll post pics, maybe. Here's pics of the Olds clutch.
I have an NORS Hayden 2705 HD clutch I've been meaning to list if that's the type of thing you're looking for.
Well, when I click on that link it says it won't fit my 2013 Nissan Frontier, which is a good thing I suppose, since I don't own one. Interested in the NORS unit.
It would be this one Steve I'll post with actual pics/price in a minute. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hda-2705
Here are pics, this one is Made in USA, it's on the clutch and the box. It's the same clutch used in a GS 455, I checked the catalog and it says 1969 GS 400, too including AC. Never used, box has a stain on it, but it's not from the clutch. I can do it for 32.00 shipped ( I have to check for sure). Hey...that's a really good QB you got down there in FL! Where'd you get that guy from?
So explain the Parts Place pricing to me: $129 unit: https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/pr...olts-to-pump-3-1-4-bolt-pattern-for-fan/91595 or another $129 unit: https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/pr...stamped-face-with-spring-fan-gm-3947772/42684 or a $39 unit: https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/pr...ark-gs-regal-gn-fan-clutch-reproduction/20259 I am BY NO MEANS knocking them -- just confused.
Steve, the short story is that there were like a wazillion different clutches made. There's a lot of NOS GM surplus clutches around, too. You can buy a GM surplus clutch for maybe 50.00 or less if you look around. It will look like the NOS GM clutch in my pics above. But, it's different inside, it operates differently. Like a torque converter, you can buy a cheap one or an expensive one, but they look the same from the outside except for the OD. JW could tell you why, I can't. The first consideration is appearance if you show your car at a high level. The second thing is function, will it really keep your car cool? Then there's price, quality, longevity, noise level, etc. Hayden has long been the "go-to" replacement or aftermarket clutch company. They're not expensive, they last a long time, they cover many aps, and brfore they were Made in USA. The last one I bought was imported. TPP clutches might be surplus, they might be 4 or 6 cylinder clutches, they are most likely imported, and personally...I don't trust them to sell a quality product. I speak from experience, about 7-8 years ago I bought what was supposed to be an NOS GM clutch from them for like 279.00 or something. It's not what I received, I sent it back. TPP is really infamous for that, at least in my book. Look at their Buick AC hoses, they show real GM AC hoses, but that's not what you get. It's about how much do you want to spend, really? A Hayden will function fine and cheap. The TPP clutches look about right, they are in the middle. Quality? Who knows? 279.00 + SH is probably what I would ask for a real NOS GM HD Buick fan in box. The NOS fan clutch in the pics above sold for huge $ last week...+SH.
Or do you mean ol' whatz-hiz-name in Tampa? I heard someone yapping about an old QB who can still play, but I just assumed they meant FitzMagic.
I've had good luck with Rock Auto on fan clutch options (std and HD versions). They usually show pictures and competitive pricing . If you want to get a reference point for going forward, they are a good start. I believe they show the Haden options...
