I have a 1968 Skylark. Bought it for $650 in 1996. Life happens and now I'm finally getting around to the paint. I have brand new 1/4 panels from Sherman. I can't weld so I searched for 3 years for someone to install them. All the body shops want is to do collision work. Finally found a shop willing to do it and we find that there is nothing to weld the 1/4's to. They don't have equipment to make the panels. I need both Trunk Floor Drop patches and the Outer Wheelhouses. Tried 68 Chevelle panels and they are not close. If I can't find anything it looks like I'm going to sell the car and all the parts I've collected for the last 30 years and just buy some modern muscle. As far as I can tell no panels are made for this car. Anyone??
There are no panels for the outer rear wheelhouses as far as I know. You need to either buy a non rusty donor car (probably from the SW), or make your own repair panels. I have a couple of 1968 cars also. There are roofs sold by AutoMetalDirect(and others). There are floorpans available also. These cars are tough to fix for sure. I am certainly jealous of all the panels and parts you buy for the 1970-72 cars... Let alone the Chevelles. I have heard that the Trunk pans cross? maybe they need a bit of a mod? Hope you figure it out...
I had the same problem. I fabricated my own wheelhouse patches and the shop made the trunk drop. It's a ton of work so I did as much as I could do myself. Expensive hobby...
Body shop fabricated mine too. Hard to believe after this many decades nobody has repo'd these. Some of the AZ junkyards must have some full quarters laying around still if they are willing to cut out the outer wheelhouses. Can't understand why they repo the inner wheelhouses and not the outer. Blows my mind.
I've had the same problem, have a 69 convt. Found a quarter and am going to have to fab the lip and drop off.
