    having problems with a 455 and starter hanging up.flywheel did not come with this engine but it only goes on one way.can any one help me as to why please call me or email me thanks bob call 304 952 8406

    With the starter in place (bolted on) take flat screw driver and move the starter gear onto the flywheel can you fit a paper clip into the "valley" of the flywheel tooth?

    It does shounds to me that you will need to install a small spaceer/shim to get the starter to release.

    I talked to bob about this. He said he'd need a .200 shim. That's more than 1/8". Seems extreme. He's got another starter he's going to try.

    That seems to be a bunch.

    Never seen that far off.

    There are some 455 flexplates being sold which are of spec. Perhaps you have one.

    He has my flexplate that came off my car for the 4 speed conversion. It's a factory piece.
