I am reading that NO GS 455 convertibles in 71 came with buckets (power driver seat) but I just bought this car as an ice cream cruiser for the family and am trying to find out more about it.
When I bought it I thought it was just another big old boat conv't. but now that I'm learning about the car I have confirmed that it is a survivor 71 gs 455 conv't.!!!
Original engine and trans correct VIN, TR and BS markings!
Also have Protecto-plate with matching EVERYTHING.

Long story short is ON THE COWL TAG is a STAMPING OF

    SCO 526

    Anybody know what this means?

    Thanks in advance!

It means special order and yes they could be special ordered that year.

    Hey-

Welcome to the site. Nice find!

Find either Marco or Duane and ask them what the SCO code means. One of those guys will probably know the answer.

Now how about some pics! :TU:

I believe it was decided it means nothing other than that is the number for the special order for that car. You would have to have access to the old Buick records and I suspect it would read that your VIN was specially ordered with buckerts etc.

If that's the case, start looking for paperwork in the car as there are no old Buick records for '71. Start by looking under the back seat.

Comments on price. Are you looking to sell , or just curious if you paid a fair price? Without pics , I couldn't even give a fair guess, as I think most will agree. Even then , a REALLY accurate description by someone who knows what they're looking at and not specifically there to buy it is the best way to see. If they want it , you'll be told everything that's wrong and get lowballed. Can anybody see it locally who knows a little about 71's ?

    Dumb Luck,
If you want to PM me the info from both your protect-o-plate and the Fisher body ID plate on the firewall I can probably tell you what the SCO number stood for.

But, you will need to write out everything exactly like it is writen on the tags for me to figure it out. A name would also be helpful, as I like to know who I am talking to.

I had one of those too... and my cowl tag didn't read SCO.

So I must presume that someone before me changed the entire front seats and added the console and changed the column and made the hole trans cable LOOK factory...

I can't imagine why anyone would go to so much trouble, so it may have been a factory mistake.

    :Do No:

    It IS a 71...:

and it DOES have buckets and console...

Duane emailed as per your request...

I thought I'd owned my last old car about 15 years ago!
This internet thing AND YOU GUYS are incredible (Thanks Duane!)
I just would like to know if this may NOT be a candidate for a SLIGHT MODDING, as I'm used to a high 11 sec 89 Turbo Trans Am.
I didn't think this was even a real car (GS 455) when I bought it!
I thought we could do the ice cream thing with the kids (3 and8)and I could get it into the mid 13's without too much trouble.
    Basically make a tire fryer.
My wife had a 71 Grand Prix SJ 455 so she fell in LOVE with this car
Now I'm thinking maybe I should leave it alone as it hasn't been screwed with yet.
    Might I have a $20000 car?
It is VERY SOLID and the paint (THOUGH NOT ORIGINAL) is Guaranteed 9 years old and the last owner says it's 20+ years old.

Did you just buy the car and are selling it? are you the seller or the buyer? Sounds just like this ad from last week on craigslist.

As rare as they are--you got a smokin deal if it is all as described in ad. :TU: One of 147, sounds like it well optioned and dry. Congrats on your purchase :beer :)

Yes, I saw that, but i was unsure whether he just bought and was the seller, or if he just bought from that seller, since they both seemed to use the car for "ice cream runs".

still don't know the answer. So "dumb luck", is it your ad on craigslist and are you selling the car, or did you buy it from the guy on craigslist and are keeping the car????

I would like to nominate Chris as the BPG club archeologist.

He digs up the most interesting things.

And if anyone else digs something up something interesting he already knew about it.
