I recently upgraded the transmission in my 68 Skylark from the ST300 to the THM350 and I'm looking for the correct location to route the kick down cable through the firewall. I think it should be below where the accelerator comes in. The cable mounts to the pedal arm in 1969 but that car has a plug in the hole if other than a 350 tranny is used. Either a picture of the firewall where the cable goes through or a picture from the 1969 service manual would be helpful.
Another option is the kickdown linkage from an Olds, direct from the carb to the TH350. No going through the floor. However I got rid of all that with electric kickdown on a TH400. Bruce Roe
Thanks again Larry. Couldn't tell from photo but is there a separate hole for the detente cable. How I understand it there wouldn't be one ( plugged up ) on my 68 due to the THM 350 not being offered until 1969 . Would I be able to use the hole for the accelerator cable ? I purchased the correct cable from T/A as well as getting the correct gas pedal bar.
I got everything buttoned up accelerator cable mounted, (see picts) with no drama. How does the detente cable attach to the arm? Is there a similar cable retainer clip like the other one used for the throttle ?
That's the cable T/A Perf sells which is the most correct. Maybe someone who has done this tranny swap could chime in how they solved this glitch . I found a picture of an NOS cable & the end that attaches to the throttle looks to be identical to what I have. Does that clip have any other application besides the detente cable ?
Not that I know of. The cable you pictured doesn’t look adjustable to me. Looks like a fixed cable stop. You want the cable to reach full travel at WOT.
When I fully depress the gas it looks like a type of clip might grab the small metal thing to pull the cable to me . The steel cable pulls to me roughly 1 1/2"- 2" when I pull on it. The black " sheath around 1" long fits nicely into the lower bracket on the arm. I think your correct that the clip in pict is not adjustable . After a 2 yr partial restoration this car is ready to see the road, hopefully w/ an operational passing gearATTACH]428122[/ATTACH]
What you need is a slotted insert in that gas pedal hole. They call it a guide on the diagram. The slot allows you to get the cable into the guide then it will keep the cable from pulling through. If it were mine and there was enough cable beyond the crimped end, I'd clip it off or grind it off so that more cable was left over and use a bicycle cable end to adjust it. Here's a set I'd try. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-3336-...EGBESH7P3CE&psc=1&refRID=ACEXGFNG4EGBESH7P3CE
