http://Here is my 66 special. Air bagged, 8 valves, drop spindles, bear tracker tie rods, fast ratio steering,disc brakes, aluminum drums in the rear, 1 1/4 front sway bar, 1 rear, polyurethane bushings threw out the entire car, solid rear control arms and much more. She handles like a slot car. Very hard to stay put on the bench seat in the turns though. Haha.

Lot's of cool looking Pro Touring cars in this thread, with lots of cool parts underneath. I guess the logical question now is how many of you are going to the Nats this fall to do the Auto-Cross?

Rex, the paint is a 2012/2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee color called Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl (I think they could have left a couple descriptors out of that). I believe the code is PRP. I painted it myself using Sherwin Williams automotive paint that I had mixed at one of their outlet stores. It's a two stage paint with both metallic and pearl in the base coat. I'm a novice and for my first paint job, I was pretty happy. There is virtually no tiger striping and it went out relatively easy.

I've been building this car for about 8 years, having started as a 68 skylark with factory drivetrain. I've been meaning to make a build/ restoration thread for ages. God knows I've got enough pictures of the work. Here are the current specs:

Motor: 464" BBB with ported iron Stage 1 heads, DUI ignition, Demon carb, lots of TA and ARP parts, 9.5:1 compression with forged Weisco slugs, TA headers -I built it about 8 years ago and 10,000 miles later, I'm surprised it's still together, knock on wood
Trans: Jimmy's Transmissions built TH400 with the usual goodies - ~2800 rpm B&M stall
Rear: Chevy 12 Bolt w/ 3.42 gears and posi with aluminum girdle cover
Suspension - stock replacement front components and UMI tubular rear parts with slightly higher spring rate springs all around
Brakes - On the to do list... Manual drums
Interior - Custom dash I made with autometer gauges styled after a Ford GT40 cluster, Recaro buckets out of a Mitsubishi Evo 9, retractable Schroth 4 point harnesses with Anti-Submarining bands
Wheels - BMW E39 18x9" Style 42s made by BBS with 265/40 BFG Sport Comp 2 up front and 275/40 rear Sport Comp 2 - Mounted using 3/4" T6061 custom billet aluminum wheel adapters

heart of the beast by TRI Shield, TA aluminum head 470 cu in, 830 quick fuel, March serpentine belt setup with AC, richmond super street 5 speed, centerforce dual friction, mcloed hyd throwout bearing, global west suspension all around, 2" drop, 4 wheel disc, Baer 6 piston disc up front, 4 piston rear, 18" US mags, TA shorty headers with electric cutouts, magnaflow stainless exhaust, led sequential taillights, 3 point seatbelts, Con2r steering wheel, stock black bucket interior, gloss black paint/body work with gsx flat black stripes in matt clear and outlined in matt red pin stipes.

Thanks to all board members that helped me over the years with parts, tips, products and advice for this labour of love. The car drives runs and drives great and will be hanging out in the Phoenix area were it started its life. Gord

 

That's a sharp car Gord. How does the Richmond fit in the trans tunnel?

Wow, what a beeeyutiful car!

 

Didn't fit in the tunnel at all, had to do a lot of metal work to make it fit.

I think there are other trannys that are low profile on top, heading to Sema to see who makes what now that doesn't require hacking the tunnel but still give options for shifter location. I used a factory 4 speed console for the shifter to come through and it looks like factory and worked ok.
