My father, who I lost at 8 years old, used to always tell me this. I think he started telling me this at like 4 years old.

He would tell me- everyone is full of #$%^ and they can all go #$%% themselves. He would always ask me, what's everyone full of? And what can they all go do? I remember him just laughing and laughing when I would give him the right answers. My mother not so much. My dad was very cynical. Even 45 years later, I still think about him every day. I often wonder what he would think about the man that I became. Kinda brings a tear to my eye as I write this....

I can list a bunch of crap that I've learned from my father, bosses/mentors or even authority figures. But what I can relate to the most is Lynrd Skynrd, Simple Man.

A person's true colors are defined by what they do when they think no one is looking.

When most people look back on their lives, they don't regret the things they tried and failed at as much as they regret the things they never tried at all.

My dad always had interesting advice.

When I started riding minibikes and motorcycles, well before I was 16, he once told me, "If you get caught doing something you shouldn't on that bike, you deserve it."

Fast forward to me being in my late 20s and hearing him and some buddies talking about the old times when they used to ride dirt bikes all over the county, running from the law with no license or taillight. When I said his saying back to him, he replied, "NO, I meant that if you couldn't out run the law on a dirt bike, you deserved to get caught!" I wish I had taken that meaning 15 years sooner though I never did get caught because, well, dirt bike.

Dad was also the one to tell me that if I didn't ask a girl out, the answer was always, "No."
