I asked him what he would sell it for as is, and he said he will want 35k done or the way it sits, as he's got over 40k into it already, and figures he's only a few more away from his level of "doneness". I get the feeling I think he's been expecting the people to be performing concours level work, which is why he's taken out of so many shops when he goes and inspects it. As I said, not Buick experts, just local restoration shops that are doing some pretty nice work, but not to a 40k car level.

Oh, and I asked if this was the Billings car, and he was pretty surprised I was aware of where it came from. Pretty funny to see the look on his face and 5 second pause before he asked how I knew that :D

When he had quarters redone someone clearly did not know where to put the emblems in the correct location. Also missing the GS that goes with the 400. Having had 4 GS400's and currently owning two convertibles I say this is a $30K at best since I see another $5K just to get it 'right' and that is assuming the engine and trans are rebuilt and 'good". The paint will take some careful blending and repair it looks like. Color combo is rare and nice. A new top if needed is $1500-1700 by a good interior shop if all rubber is replaced, bows are redone etc. Stainless on top of grill looks ragged and they are hard to find in decent shape.

Sure hope a Buick person steps up and buys this car and puts it in better shape for the long haul.

Nice job on documentation Lucas. It's too bad that a good sum of money was spent on that car and so much of the work wasn't done correctly. It's still a nice car that needs a person that knows these cars to provide a little attention to detail that it's lacking. I think Chuck nailed it when he said another $5K would do the trick.

Did the owner happen to mention anything about the missing w/o moldings on all 4 corners? If those are gone look to add another $15-1600 to that 5K.

Cripes, forgot to ask specifically about those. I knew I forgot something after I asked about the missing headlight bezels. He did say he has all the missing trim and emblems, of which I saw most. He's got some spares that go with it like at least one quarter extension, an extra headlight bezel or two, etc. It sounds like there's parts kind of strewn about the dealership, his house, and the resto shops..... All the windlace and weatherstrip has been replaced, too. The hood springs are a little weak, forgot to mention that.

I tried to take as many pics of what I thought I'd want to see if I was worried about an original car. Hopefully the VIN and Trim Tag will go to use in the registry if nothing else :D

Love the color combination, wouldn’t have been my first choice to put the yellow interior in, but it works well. As noted, I’m seeing another $5000 to get the car complete and in my opinion even then you’re only going to have a driver quality car, looking at everything close, the car would need completely redone to ever be considered a show car. A lot of money to spend on a car that still isn’t “there” when done.

  13. that paint shouldn't chip like that if it was a quality job. note how the chips are all the way down to the metal. no primer adhesion. this car was mediocre back when i looked it over in Billings and it appears it's still mediocre
