Logging in problem

I used to be able to automatically log-in by my user name, now I have to type in my password everytime.

It's becoming a real pain-in the ass because I'm usually here everyday looking for parts and reviewing threads of interest.

I know it's possible because the old computer would do it until I whumped it :af: :blast: :Comp: -Harry

Try deleting your cookies, and make sure your not blocking v8buick.com's cookie (you can make an exception for it if you block cookies). Also make sure the checkbox on the login page is checked, so it will remember you when you login (though you probably already did that).

You can also check and see if your web browser is set to remember passwords or not (though, its not a good idea from a security standpoint).

Thanks for providing the advice Truzi
I have deleted all cookies, made sure that I wasn't blocking V-8 Buick, and made sure the box was checked and still have this minor problem.
I can go to other sites and my password will automatically be entered with my username,it just won't work on this site for some reason.

Looks like I'm going to become double handed entering my password instead of the usual finger stabber

Here are a couple more things to try:

See if you have the browser set to accept cookies only from the originating website. If so, turn it off. For some reason if I only accept cookies from the originating website, I get the same problem on this BBS as you are having - on both Linux with the Firefox browser, and on windoze with both Firefox and M$ Internet Explorer.

Also, is it possible you once had your browser set to remember passwords, then turned off that feature before logging on to v8buick?

Okay, you are probably using M$ Internet Explorer...
Open it and go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options."

Go to the "Privacy" tab and click the "Advanced" button - a window will appear.

Put a check in "Override Automatic Cookie Handling" and make sure it accepts "First Party Cookies." This is what I refer to as the originating website. (If you don't override the settings, it should work for you, but do it just to be sure - we don't know the source of the problem yet - we're trying all options.)

Also, allow "Third Party Cookies" and see if that works.
"Third Party Cookies" are cookies set by the page you visit, but are not from the page itself. Think of it this way - pretend you and I both have websites. A third-party cookie would be as if my website set cookies that were really for your site (as per some agreement you and I had to do so).

I'm not entirely sure about the password option in the latest Internet Explorer, as I use Mozilla Firefox, and rarely use my windoze machine anymore. I'm not sure if the browser needs to remember a password in order for v8buick to automatically log you in (I would think it would be a feature that uses only cookies).

Whether to save passwords is hidden as "autocomplete."
Go to the "Content" tab and look in the "Personal Information" section. Click the "Autocomplete" button - a window appears. Checking "User Names and Passwords on Forms" should set the browser to remember your passwords. Again, I'm not entirely sure this affects logging into v8buick.

Personally, I advocate Mozilla Firefox. It's free, has no malware, and is a very nice web browser. There are a few web pages out there it has problems with, but generally nothing I really need to do. If you use Mozilla and it won't show a page for you, you can always go back to M$IE for that particular web page.

I work on computers at the college I attend... and have grown to loath M$ windoze.
Have you added any programs like a firewall, popup blocker, or toolbar for M$IE?

Try downloading Firefox and see if you like it.

Hmm... go back to Internet Options, then to the Security tab. Click on the "Internet" icon (an globe). What is your "Security level for this zone?"

You could also go back to Privacy Tab, select "Sites," type in www.v8buick.com and click the "Allow" button. (Of course, make sure www.v8buick.com and v8buick.com are not listed already.)

I'll let you know if I have any more ideas. Maybe someone else here has a few and will chime in.

LOL. You might have to check the settings on those things you added... some of them can block cookies, websites, and do all sorts of neat things.

Oh, Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox have had built-in popup blocking... and M$IE has recently added it too.

    Remove V8Buick from your favorites.
Type the address again, log in with your name and password, and save V8Buick to your favorites after doing so.

This should cure your password problem...... :TU:

I know a "neat" thing happened last night when I tried to send my buddy a video from a camera. My Norton's wouldn't let me send it so me being the computer genius I are  played with Norton's & Outlook Express,he ended up recieving 141 empty e-mails,oooh man did I feel bad,one word came to mind......JackAss!!

But that's O.K.,aaahee,aahee,aahee,always calls me that.

Erik I thought your suggestion was going to nail it but that's not the answer either,good-try though.

Umm... personally I'd avoid Outlook. Try Mozilla Thunderbird. Outlook and Outlook Express are targeted by virus programs.
