    Go Buckeyes!

I know, Phil. My best friend is flying in tonight from Findlay, OH and he says the same thing. I have found him 3 cars in the last 2 years that he has bought and taken back to Ohio. I am sure we will be out looking again tomorrow.

what really made me sick was when I was back home in TX seeing all the "mint" cars laying around become they had surface rust or something or the other wrong with them. Just on I-35 alone I past what had to be 2-3 classic car only scrap yards and almost a dozen sales lots with 40-70's iron in them as the major population. Made me sick to think I got to worry about getting a car back from a place like that to get one with a decent body and the good deals are all under trees not on the world wide web!

    Where is the yard?

    Mike,
    Nice find!
Where is the yard located? Is it operating? The cars look very unmessed with, gotta love the radio delete plate on the LeSabre!

Oh the agony of it all!

    :ball:
Nearly all the yards around here have been crushed out, and now have housing or malls in their place.

My Mother in-law lives in Waterloo Iowa.
Next summer when we are down there I have to get out and scrounge some of the Iowa yards!

    Location

    Hey Tim,

It is out off of Vandalia Road on the east side of Des Moines. It is a working junkyard but they don't allow anyone in their yard without supervision. I was driving down one of the dirt roads, parked my van and walked in a field along the fence hoping to get some pics and there was an opening so I went through and had a blast. Luckily I wasn't caught but I did not see any "No trespassing" signs. Dale, this is one of those yards that has been "selected" for Eminent Domain and it is just a matter of time before it will be gone. Too bad because they just can't move them all so they crush them. Better act fast if you are interested.

    Des Moines Yard

    Mike,
Thanks for sharing the information! There is a group of BCA and ROA guys up here who are real "junkyard dogs!" Looks like an Iowa road trip is in the near future. I can back up what Dale says, the steel prices the last couple of years really pushed up the crushing around here. French Lake still gets stuff in and Rohners out in Willmar has some cars, but who knows when the dollars are going to speak loud enough and they'll crush out too! Sad to see these cars and yards go, progress, ain't it wonderful?
    Happy New Year everyone!

Man it hurts to go to those places to know that they will be gone. I went to two salvage yards in my area two years ago looking for a Corvair that I was told was at each one . the first yard I talked with the owner of the yard and he said the car was cut up as soon as it came in but he did let me walk around although there was a ton of snow. there was way in the back a 73 Riverea GS 455 loaded all there but rusted out and a grand national smashed and mostly all ther.

He would not sell the cars, he would sell parts . he had no ownerships for most of the cars but I htink if I had got the VIN # and did the leg work and went back with a clear title he may have let them go.
I have not gone back since.

was there any Corvairs in that yard. :)

I did not specifically see any Corvairs but..... There is a small European yard 1/4 mile from my house and I noticed that they hauled in a corvair in the last couple of weeks that had been hit pretty good. What are you looking for?
