Trying to see if you guys have any recommendations on a quality chrome plating company?

Unfortunately here in Oregon we we don’t have any good options. Much appreciated thank you!!!

I think there are 2 or 3 plating shops in the Portland area...
Seattle has Art Brass plating by the Seattles Boeing field..

I'm on the East Coast Andrew, but what Nick says, Ogden is supposed to be really good. They do triple show, pay return shipping and from what i heard they get bumpers pretty straight. And, they are right in your area, I think.

It appears the PDX plating shops don’t do chrome. There is PNW Plating in Vancouver, WA but they have horrible reviews. Thanks for the heads up on Art Brass.

Have you heard of Mastercraft Metal Plating in Seattle?

Is that pot metal? If so you will need to find a company that specializes in rechrome pot metal.

Mastercraft Cant say nothing good or bad.. they are still around... must good.... Yes I do know one employee makes the shop.. they leaves there goes the quality.....

http://www.eastsideplating.com/Home/tabid/632/Default.aspx. Found these guys in PDX

Question for You.... I notice you use the wording ( horrible reviews ). Is that like yelp reviews.. In other words internet trash talk....

Its much better to see the shops in person.... and see their work...... Clown goes to a Earl Scheib and gets the $99.99 paint job which is just a scuff & shoot. Now the Clowns wines like bitch on the internet. They do terrible work,, treated me like poop,,, ETC ETC...

I would never condemn anybodies workmanship off of internet hearsay....
Inter net reviews are all crap............... I know of real scum bag shops ( not talking about chrome.. Body & mechanical shops) here in this area that do flat out trash work. They have great reviews.. reason why they do their own reviews & trash talk the good shops that do good work...

Have you tried Don Meth at Show Quality Metal Finishing? He has/had a shop in Centralia as well as Seattle and has owned several Buicks.

    Hi Andrew

I would highly recommend Ogden Chrome in Ogden UT. I had them do some pot metal pieces for me a few years ago - 1 of which was broken- repaired and plated.

Yes the place in Vancouver lives up to their reputation. My friend who does high end body and paint tried to use them and they failed miserably multiple times on the same parts.

Not basing it solely off online reviews which are pretty compelling I must say. I went there in person and also spoke to other people that have done business with them that are in the industry and they have told me to stay away. Same goes for Eastside Plating.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Internet reviews are NOT hearsay. They are actual people who have used the services and have an opinion to share. Of course these are like any other opinion.

Still, reading them and gauging the complaints can be quite helpful. Sometimes you can tell the person complaining knows nothing and is just whining, sometimes you can tell the person is informed and their complaint is legit.

Artbrass has mixed "reviews" based on the people in Seattle I have spoken to.

There is place in Mukilteo WA called Queen city plating that is expensive but supposed to be ok?

I am also looking for someone to straighten and chrome my 1968 Bumpers.

FYI, Ogden Utah is NOT in our neighborhood LOL.

Whoops Max, if that's true, my bad. I thought it was in Oregon or WA for some reason. In any event, that's a pretty small piece compared to a Buick bumper. Easy enough to ship. Paul's is supposed to be the best at pot metal, but super expensive and I don't think you need the best for that piece.

I just spoke to him and his starting price is $1,000 to have it chromed and it could go up from there.

Art Brass Is great Ive dealt with them over the years. Rechoming boat parts. Ive saw customers finished bumpers there they look good.. Although Im not putting the bumpers & other peoples property under a microscope......
There is a guy in Skagit County from what I hear.... that does the prep work on ( bumpers) he charges BIG $.. like 5K a bumper... He's good FWIW also test fits (bumper) on your car before plating ... He uses Art Brass for the plate work..

Queen City.= Nice guy ( owner)but The head employee that made the shop is no longer there... From what I understand he went to Art.

Is that console badly pitted? It really shouldn't be that expensive ($1000)to rechrome that piece as all that's really being chromed is the perimeter and the tach cup, right?
I would contact Custom Metal Finishing Indiana for a quote. I just had a diecast trunk molding chromed by them for a '67 and it only cost $275 and is much more involved and tedious than your console. They do quality pot metal work at reasonable prices.

Have you talked to StarBrite Metal Finishing out in Oregon City? They have done some pot metal tail light housings, Wing window support frame, and just recently my head light buckets.
Stuff looks good and shiny to me.

If you want to come out to Boring, I can show you the pieces they have done for me. I'm not sure they do the chrome plating themselves, but they do the stripping, polishing and pretty sure the copper, then send it out. Or maybe they do it in house, I really don't know.

I spoke to Starbright earlier this morning and he does the prep work but then sends it out to Eastside Plating or drives to Idaho to have them done. He use to use PNW Plating in Vancouver a few years back. Nice guy but not my place of choice after speaking to him over the course of 20 or so minutes.

When I am ready I think I am going to take it to Art Brass.

It comes a part in 2 pieces top/bottom, tach cup, shifter boot ring (not the thin one but the cosmetic piece) and it all has to be done they won’t just do the perimeter.

Trying to avoid mailing the console, driving to Seattle seems to be the best choice IMHO.
