So what good is a 400 with a Stage 1 stamp but the wrong VIN? If you’re going to be shady and restamp the VIN, why not do the code, too?
Or did Moflipper make a lopsided deal where the carb or distributor buyer added the engine so cheaply that it was worth it for date codes and such?
Also, unless he’s using old pictures (could be), it looks like the engine hasn’t been touched. If I were buying based on his pics and found it apart when I went to pick it up, I’d be pissed.

Patrick, IF you have a stage 1 that does not have the original engine, this would be the closest thing to have a "numbers car". It may not be the right VIN, but it is a stage 1 engine....

If I didn’t have the original engine, I’d rather have a healthy 430 or 455 disguised as a Stage 1 instead of the wrong 400.

Yeah, I saw that. If he sells pieces he needs to update the car’s listing.

Well, he has Buy It Now on all his junk. Maybe BIN on all three and sue the Moflipper?

I had spoke with gsonnos- the seller from the board, who is a cool Buick guy. I was willing to buy this whole at the time, just not at the price (as I intimately know how much it costs to restore a 69 GS). I think we were about $1500-$2000 apart. Several months go by and an esteemed board member reached out to me to act as a "middle man" to try one last ditch effort to have this car come to me. Shortly there after, this guy in New York bought it off of ebay. Gsonnos got his asking price and that was that.

If the ebay Moflipper was willing to actually give me his "bottom dollar" price for the car, as it sits now, and it was close to what I would want to spend, I would purchase it, as he is only 3 hours away. However, I do not deal with people who have very little integrity (stating he bought the car without the original engine). So, I think this cars fate is pretty much sealed. One less 69 stage...

George talk about a kick in the nuts. I was less then an hour away from the original seller. But I value you and some of the other 8/9’r guys and my pockets weren’t deep enough for a 50-75k resto. With my 69 I have had a hard enough time finding someone that knew buick engines around here let alone someone to restore it to a level of it being correct as possible. I just didn’t have the cash or the resources. I guess it is what it is.

69_GS_400- I'm OK with it... At the end of the day, it's just a car (I have to keep saying that to myself as I would be buying them all.. LOL). In addition, I am neck deep in a frame off, which is a great reminder to NOT buy another project. I keep on saying I have one more left in me... I probably do.. This one was crusty... And thinking of all of that rust falling in my eyes, mouth, ears... slicing my skin open on sharp, rusty edges... ehh..

I hope someone here gets it; it’s such a cool car and ought to be saved. It looks to all of us like the seller’s a dick, but so what? Negotiate based on the car and its value. As a contrast, how many of us would overpay for a car or buy something we don’t want because we have warm fuzzies for the seller, right?

I think we all agree it's a cool car and should've been saved but was on here complete & w/several price drops & nobody could see a path to restoring it for whatever reason(s). I can't imagine anyone doing so now that it's apart, missing pieces, and would take even more $ to aquire what's left. Sad to see but it'll likely never live again.

    Hello everyone,
The 1969 Buick Gs 400 Stage 1 from this thread is still around and not dead. I found it on Facebook marketplace about 5 months ago. The car was in MI. The car is now in PA in my pole barn with my other projects. The owner got it from an estate sale with some other Buicks. He was told it was all #s matching. From the pictures it looked very original. Original chrome valve covers still in place. Air cleaner support bracket still there. All hoses still attached. So the POS from NY did a very good job making it look like it was a #s matching car. Engine is a 1967 430 and a BA turbo 400 transmission. Original 3.64 rear is still in it. Hood and tilt column still with it. I only paid $2,500 for the car. I'm hoping to find the original engine and transmission for the car. I have a 1968 Buick GS 400 4 speed that is all #s matching and I always wanted a 69 Stage 1 car. If anyone on here has any info on who may have bought the engine and transmission that would be very much appreciated. It is such a cool loaded Stage 1 car and it should be saved. I can't believe that POS from NY would lie to buy it and part it out. I'm glad I have it. I have been buying NOS parts for the future restoration. I have other cars to get done first. Thank you to anyone that reads this and gets back to me. I know this is an old thread and I am very new to this. Take care, Anthony

Max Damage I'm working on it!

If the NY guy sold the engine, he is the one to talk to about where it went.

Glad to see this car is in good hands. Hope it comes together for you!

There’s discrespancies about the engine; it may have not been original from the get go. How complete is it otherwise? (Seats, hood, column, etc.)?

Thanks. I don't know the guy from NY, but I know the guy John that sold it to him.
    I'll see what he remembers.

Old pics from when on Ebay show a preheater shroud on the exhaust manifold. Not now with the 67 430 in it. Not prove but engine was changed before I bought it. Still has the hood and column. Seats and console gone. I already found good 69 bucket seats. Thanks.

Earlier, in this thread it was for sale by the second person as others mentioned he sold the stage one carb. Sold the buckets and console. Then had the engine and distributor up for sale.. Maybe if you offered to pay him a profit to get the old engine back, He might entertain that. Otherwise, I don't know that you'll get any help from him.

Thanks. Looks like you have some nice projects going also. I'm restoring a 68 GTO 4 speed and a 68 GS 400 4 speed right now.
