I realize any coverage is good, but why do the guys always take pics of the same cars every year? Nothing against Bob K, I love both his cars, but I have the same exact cover from a few years ago. And orange Corvettes, love them too,but its the same every year. There are ALOT of really cool cars that show up.Alot!! Before anybody says I have sour grapes about my own car not being in it.I assure that is not the case.Red GTO,S are not uncommon, therefore any pic of them has been done dozens of times. Just would like to let the world know that the event attracts many new and different cars. They should also put everyones et,s and times.

Agreed- I had no car in this race, but there were some neat cars that should be showcased.
This is the same problem as always, the magazines only want to show/promote the top 10 fastest cars, when the race is about getting people off their lawn chairs, and away from their local A&W drive in car show. Bring that stock Musclecar out to the race, and learn how to tune it and drive it to the best of your ability, and most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

Magazine coverage of the quickest cars does not capture the true "spirit" of the event, nor does it encourage the guy sitting on the fence with his stock car to come out and play. It has a negative impact in my opinion, discouraging the owner of a stock car from coming out in fear that his car is too slow, or will be an embarrassment to himself or to the marque he is driving.

Maybe we should run the top 10 with Rinkes ZL1 Camaros in exhibition, and run the usual Pure Stock pairings with cars 11-150? Hey, others are thinking it, I'm just bored enough to print it to start some internet bickering, maybe get people to check and see if they still have a pulse around here.

Probably because most of the people who read those articles only want to read numbers. If it was really interesting to them they'd be in the staging lanes or Stands.
Very few of those writers seem to know about much more than the top dogs. Exception; Tom Shaw. Who else does articles on Studebakers?

I'm always disappointed when the cover car doesn't get an article, and I only find an article about the event it was at. If it's good enough for the cover, at least give us a sidebar in the article about the car on the cover too.

    I agree 100% !!

What a kick in the nuts to the guys that raced the top pairings and didn't "WIN". They weren't even mentioned. How much extra would it take to print all of the pairings and times ? I didn't even know that I had ink in that article until 2 days ago when I was leafing though the mag on the crapper. There's a picture of a red Corvette without its' pairing.....ME and my Charger. I "WON", the shootout, but the red Vette gets the picture. No biggie, I guess ......just a bummer.

And no sour grapes against Henry Atsma and his Vette. He's a great guy and we had some great drag racing. But you are spot on with your comments.

Mr Glasgo, WTF!!!!! You think I have any ****ing control on what pictures or info goes to print at the Pure Stock Drag Race!?!! COME ON!!! I don't take the pictures or write the stories, we can agree on one thing every car that races is very cool and has his/her place.. But NOW hear this I have zero to do with any magazine coverage (at the PSMCDR) just like BK would say if he was on here.. WHAT A BUNCH OF 8th grade BULL ****!!! NO SOUR GRAPES HUH!? AS far as Et's and everyone's picture that would be awesome but again I have no control. Write the editor. I don't race for the magazine coverage NEVER HAVE NEVER WILL!! Some race for the parties, some race for the alcohol, some race for the food and some race for the fun... I HAVE NEVER QUESTIONED ANYONE DESIRE TO RACE SO PLEASE DONT QUESTION MINE!!!!

MR.Glasgo, With all due respect, when did you ever hear me say it was all about orange Corvettes!?! Please refresh my memory??? BACK PEDDLING and not getting it!!?? Just like when I said earlier about not take the pictures ect......I also don't make the rules for the PSMCDR but do have to play by them!! Maybe its YOU that don't get it!! I will tear any of my cars down anytime anywhere to prove there're fast and yes very very legal!!

First off, call me John:):) I guess I deserve that. I realize you have no control over what the magazines do. I understand that. I also don't think you or any of the other L88 cars are cheating at all. You have a factory race car,why cheat? All I said was the magazines do the same spread after the other. No disrespect to you or Bob,like both of you guys. But I do have another Musclecar mag with the same cover as this one! I don't care about myself getting in a Magazine,or getting trophys,or being the fastest,(never was anyway),I am over that. I just want to have a little fun once in a while. If I was a person just looking at the magazine,i would think,ho hum, more of the same! There is always so many over the top restorations, and super rare cars that people show up with, and if you are not there, you would never know. Some of the guys with the slower cars deserve a little more, and putting all the times means a lot to these guys.

I believe if the magazines posted a complete list of ET's for all the competitors as they used to do, more people may come out to give it a try. Just showing the 10 fastest or whatever is an eye opener but does not show the real intent of the event. The original intent was to showcase what all different types of cars could do with tuning and minimal modifications.
We all know a Hemi anything is fast, it should be. Same with the L-88 cars. Why not show what a 429 Torino or Riviera GS 455 can do?

Regardless of weather it is a hemi or an L88 or any other car, the 11.50 nhra rules are in effect, psmcdr says no roll bars, the track has no choice for insurance reasons and were the ones that enforced the rule and put some cars on the trailer. The l88 is the ideal car for going fast at psmcdr, it is the only car with an IRS, trust me when I tell you that it has big time advantages with polyglas tires, it has nearly 50/50 weight distribution, good exhaust and fresh air intake with a double pumper, big cam and is lightweight, name one other car that has all of these attributes.

The bottom line is that some of the cars can go faster legally than the 11.50 nhra mandated rule. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have to let off at 1,000 feet. Usually the track is the limiting fact, look what they ran out east.

I believe the exhibition COPO cars were A big hit with the crowd and we should extend an invitation to some of the old nostalgia ss cars that are out there, Rinke and Larry have a few, plus others would love to come and play, limit it to say 10 cars and make it a side show to enhance the race, it can be our version Of the jet engine dragster.

Btw, I am not defending or condemning any car that can reach the magic 11.50 number, just wish I could get close enough to be able to hit the brakes before the stripe.

I agree that the same guys seem to get a lot of the press, but I've seen a lot of other guys too so i'm not complaining. We have to remember that some of these guys have been in it since the inception so the coverage started 20 years ago. There might be 20 or so guys that have been with it that long. I would like to see a decent feature on the cover cars too. I would like to see the Factory built race cars get a chance to show at the Pure Stock as well. just some cool ass exibition runs.

As a outside observer, I can tell you there were pictures this year in Hemmings of cars I'd never seen before - the split window Vette, the T-37, the RA Firebird, the SD Formula and lets not forget the Avanti, the SC360 and a bunch of other stuff. And both Hemmings and MCR "10 reasons"article had a pic of a car I was particularly interested in, the 73 442 with ET's and tech results (if I can figure out what that guy knows, you'll see a 12 second Colonnade someday) I actually think that year over year coverage from both magazines is pretty good, and should make you guys ecstatic. Between the race and specific vehicle profiles, that's more ink than any other group gets, anywhere.

And I think those articles do show the potential of the lower pairings for guys like me who are running mid-14's (if you take the time to actually read them) Did anybody ask the 442 guy he came from, what drew him to the event? Or how about the guy from NYC with the LTD?

That said, I do miss the old MCR format which highlighted specific pairings and the shootout results, that was really the format that showed me it wasn't all about 4.56's and trailers.

Working hard to join you guys one of these years with the 65,and when I do there's a whole lot of 4000 lb 351 cars that had better watch out!

That's my uncle's 442... he's been to these events the past few years as a spectator and helped some of our friends run cars. He's talked about it for years and pulled the trigger on bringing it this year. After running it, I think he's hooked... That car has been in the family since it was a year old. My dad bought it, then it went to my uncle in the 80's.

The magazine articles draw spectators, and I would postulate that the interactions between spectators and event organizers/racers are what gets more and more people involved in the racing.

there has been such a great variety of cars that have been pictured and noted, 3 Pure Stockers were up for Muscle Car of the year, several were the year before

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...le-Machine-of-the-Year-nominations&highlight=

and many more of our friends have received features, buyers guides, and weekend warrior stories.

I agree the old days of Muscle Car Review posting every pairing and results was cool, I also gotta point out MCR died a horrible death for not being profitable. We should be grateful for the coverage the event receives.

also, the Corvette is a musclecar, the same as a any other vehicle that runs at the PSMCDR, anything that came with the engine combination available in the Corvette belongs !

Hard to argue that HMM and MCR have not been diverse in their coverage. They are hungry for all makes and models of musclecars, because they realize that their subscribers (whatever their brand loyalties might seem) are overall car fans and find all of them interesting.

Heck.... I was floored to learn that my friend Tom Guarrs 1970 Rebel Machine, was picked as HMM "Muscle Machine of the Year" this year . Not surprised so much from the standpoint on what the car is, but more so that enough readers voted for it.

On AMC related forums I frequent, I see posters get upset because they think that not enough AM product gets coverage. I usually chime in and say that proportionally speaking, we get plenty of coverage. All one needs to do is look back. I know that my car has received disproportionate amount of coverage, and I'm not speaking from that standpoint.

The mags realize that pound for pound, the PSD's is the best value for them to get overall coverage of cars. All of them.....
