    Love that color

The color in question is 98 Caddillac Black Cherry Metallic. I used Dupont Chroma-base. If you need a code, I could probably dig one up.

Why would I mind If anyone else used that color? will tell you though. It's a real B!### to get evenly applied, and quite spendy too.

Thanks all for the compliments, I just wanted to have the only one, or at least the first one! LoL Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done!

    WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!!

Skyman, please post your first name.

What did you use to fill in the 1/16" gap between the rear and front glass and the new window channel? I'm sure you didn't leave a gap there, so I'm wondering what you did to make it flush all the way.

Again, I'm speechless. If you don't get in to a mag I'll personally lobby for you.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. For a long time I just wished I had left the window channels alone. It took a LOT of time to get them straight again. What you're looking at is 18ga sheetmetal, bent to a 90 degree angle to fit in the channel, then sliced a million times to radius the curves, then I welded all the slices solid. Luckily the force was with me, and it came out looking decent! BTW, thanks for the compliments. one day, when all the planets align, I will achieve the perfect paint job. Till then.... well, at least I can buff it out!!!

Thanks Richard, I'll post there, and I will get in touch with ya when we get settled for the latest scoop on car events. I'm gonna try to get this thing on the road in time for Buick Nats this year (maybe???). And I always need skyalrk parts, good to know a reliable source. Thanks,

Thanks Skyman. Yeah, I understood all that from before. What I mean is, there is a tiny gap around the window now, between the edge of the window and the metal window channel. You didn't leave that gap there did you? Did you fill it in with a bead of silicone or something? Even new cars have a thin rubber strip that fits between the edge of the glass and the sheet metal channel.

Unless you butted the edge of the glass against your new metal all the way around?? Won't body flex shatter it then?

OHHHH, I get it. :Dou: Yeah, I used sealer, and worked it down between the glass and channel. I used Sika sealer, so it cleans off the paint and glass really well, as long as you do it before it dries!

Hey Skyman, On the rear window, since you won't have moldings, what will hide the sealant under the window in the channel?? Won't it be visible through the window?

Can't believe I've missed this thread!

WOW! Nice work, and thanks for the ongoing updates. :TU:

How's the interior coming along? I like the modern console (storage, cupholders, etc). Do you remember any other possible donors that you considered? I'd like to either find or build one that ties into the dash where the ashtray was, kinda like the first Riviera, but with cupholders, lots of storage, and room for power window, lock, and seat switches.

Prolly have to make one myself out of walnut plywood over a wood frame. :Do No:

    Window tricks

Ken, I bought a new windshield from Safelite, and brought my old rear window in with me when I went to pick it up. The nice folks there went ahead and painted Sika's "window edging primer" on the inside edges of both for me. The primer is black, and helps with the adhesion of the glass/sealer and is recommended by them anyway. I had 3/4" all the way around the windshield, and 2" on the bottom done. On the rear glass I had 3/4" all the way around painted. It looks modern, and hides the sealer quite well.

I haven't had time to play too much with the interior, that will be last on the list (still need to wire it first). Actually, the console that ties to the dash would be easier to find than one that doesn't. I had to look long and hard for one with what I wanted, that didn't tie in. I would look at mid 90's camaro, they look cool and as the add said "have a cup holder big enough for a slushy". Iffn I waz you, I'd shop for one from an overdrive car, so when you drop that 200R4 in, the shifter will already be set up!!! The late 80's Camaros have the window and seat buttons in the console already. I just went to the junkyards and shopped around.
I personally would not use anything wood anywhere near my car. I just don't care for the "homade" look. Especially if you can "home-make" it, and get it to look professional! If you really want to make your own, look at using strap steel for framing, sheet plastic, and fiberglass. I've seen some really hot looking consoles made from nothing more. :beer

I know what you mean about 'homemade looking', what I'm think of is something that'll tie into the dash, and fit in with the vinyl and wood already in the car (I put veneer on the dash panels rather than woodgrain stickers).

I'm thinking it's gonna be hard to find exactly what I want, something with all the bells and whistles and yet *sturdy* enough I won't have to worry about the kids jumping/kicking it (like in our '01 Buick - flimsy console).

What I've got in mind is padded vinyl covered sides, with a polished walnut face coming down from the dash (cd player goes there) back (cupholders go there) and up (switches go there) to a large padded and covered armrest/storage lid, then on back clear to the rear seat with more storage at the rear (big enough for a watertight insert that'll hold a six-pack of Dr Pepper  )

While I'm daydreaming, I want to redirect the heater to blow out the front and rear sides, with additional courtesy lights on each rear side. Front and rear power outlets would be good also.

Hmm...you got me thinking about getting away from wood, though....how about 3/4" square tube steel frame, with heavy gauge sheetmetal covered in the same vinyl as the seat sides/backs, with 1/4 inch or maybe thicker padding...and the walnut inserts up front?

James, I like how you think with the tube steel. However, I think 3/4" tube will reduce the inside area greatly. I would look at 5/16 or 1/2" at the most. once it's welded up, it will be indestructable. I recommend 18Ga sheet, or even better, to reduce the weight, use 18Gage aluminum. :Brow: That sounds like a helluva project. It would be trick to get the heater vents and courtesy lights in it (Just like the 1st gen Rivs). I wanna see it when it's done!!!

Thanks! And I'm looking forward to seeing it too... :Brow: ...it's all in my head now, and I've got a 455 to finish first, and life keeps getting in the way... :spank:

I'l prolly get real serious about it in the spring, but I'll be sure and post some pics of the project.

How's yours coming along? I'd love to see a closeup pic of the flush-mount windows, those sound way cool.

Mine is actually at a buddies house while I work on his truck (66 Chubby, needing major reconstructive bodywork!) I should have it back this weekend, or early next week. I'll post pics of the window area then.

    better oiling?

Does anyone know much about dry sump oil systems? I am kinda thinking about going that route, it seems to make sense with the turbo application. Any ideas on where to begin research would be helpfull. Thanks

Craig. We spent four days there being dissapointed with house hunting. I am now on leave in KS, will be arriving next week. I have the car on the trailer with me here. Thank god the weather has been nice!!! Looks like we are going to rent a house until we can find one that suits us. I'll get in touch with you when we get settled. I'm looking forward to getting this thing on the road. Thanks
