Might as well post the date you're looking for (somewhere on here is a list of "known" date codes). Might get lucky. IMHO, it's not worth spending the big $ unless it's the correct one esp. since you have the correct distributor.

Kinda like a NOM but correctly date coded &/or SS block IMHO doesn't add much if any value to a car although in your case even the incorrect carb is still worth big $ to someone.

I would agree with that but then there's Dave Johnson's old GSX selling for the same money twice at auction.

    Whoda thunk?

Yes but that was the because of the quality of the resto. I can't remember if it had a correctly dated block but how much more/less would it have sold for if so/not? IMHO it didn't make a difference either way & how much more would it have brought w/the #'s matching engine? Prob. $10-20k.

what’s the build date of your car ? Here’s a screenshot of the well known 70 stage one car carburetor build dates. 9DFB35F6-519B-4454-AA08-F38D10BD7E70.png

I have seen a 1600. Would that be to late for a 70 stage 1 ? When was the last 70 stage 1 built ?

Sorry I read your thread wrong that would be the one hundredth and 60th day 1970 that’s a rare one. The last 70 stage one was probably built sometime in June, July 1970.

I believe I read somewhere that they were built up until around the 25th of July 1970. And I do believe that included some GSX being produced also into July.

My thought is if your car still has the original drivetrain and not a carburetor and distributor it’s worth at least finding a carburetor an distributor even if the day codes are wrong because you may be able to find someone to trade for the right dates in the future. It also depends if you’re already underwater on your car and then it’s a moot point. The carburetors and distributors are starting to dry up at this point.

I agree. I'd just bide my time and wait till a correct one comes up. I get it they aren't cheap and don't exactly come up every other day, but "near numbers matching" or "near date correct" isnt really a category. And you'd still spend a few bucks to get it. JMO.

The build date on car is 04b so what would be the right date code for that car the date code on dist is 9L4

Date codes usually run 2-3 months before the build of the car unless there’s a problem on the line which cars have known to have oddball date codes and are still original to the car. The codes that could be correct would be 0150, 0540, 0720. 0900 would work. Good luck with your search.

Unfortunately, that's right in the GSX production period and hence there were a few runs of them in that time frame. If it were me, I'd probably want an 0720 or 0900.

That's what I was thinking. So if anyone has a 720 or 900 date code let me know
