Is it the idler arm are the pitman arm that would cause the steering to have alot of play while rocking the wheel side to side while driving?

I think you may need to re-check what you need. The pitman arm which attaches to the steering box is a non wear item. There is no joint in it and has nothing to wear out. If you have play at the pitman arm, you need a centerlink which is a TRW #DS-785.

It could be the idler arm. It could also be the centerlink, inner tie rods, or outer tie rods. While your under there, unload the ball joints and check them. Also check your strut rod bushings.

Jack the front of the car off the ground and support it. have a buddy push and pull on the tires sided to side while you see what moves and where. Also have your friend move the steering wheel side to side and watch the same areas. there should be no sloppy movement at any of the joints.

I took my problem to the local shop an found out that the steering box had to much play, an I did not know that the steering gear could adjusted to tighten the wheel. Now my problem is fixed an steering it good an tight.
